2nd Trimester

XP OWT: Needle on a String

I spent the night at my mom's house because DH was going to be out late and I don't like staying home alone. She was telling me about an OWT that she and her sister did before having kids that turned out true for both of them so we did it just for fun. We put a needle on a string of thread and held it still over my open palm. If the needle swings in a circle it means girl and if in a line it means boy. For more than one kid, it will swing in one way, then stop, then swing again to see each kid. We did it several times on my mom, myself and even DD (who is 2 LOL) and got the same answer every time! My mom showed 3 girls (she stopped at 2 kids - but had only girls). Mine showed girl first and then boy (DD#1 was girl - don't know DC#2 yet) and it showedy DD would have 2 boys and then a girl. It was a lot of fun and I guess we will have to wait a few more weeks to find out for sure!!

  • Mine said boy then girl.  Everyone in the room's was right.  Kind of crazy!

  • I've done this a number of times during this pregnancy and every single time it showed two boys. Sure enough this LO is a boy! It's eerie how right it is. Another one I heard only works if you already have a little one. Look at the nap of your child's neck. If the hairline is straight then your next will be a boy, but if it comes into a peak, the next LO will be a girl. This was also true for us, as well as everyone else we've seen try it. Kinda freaky!

  • My MIL swears up and down that this is the most sure way to tell the sex, haha. It has shown right for her three kids, my SIL, and everyone else in their family. We haven't tried it yet on myself though.

Edit: I just decided to try it cus I had needle and thread next to me, and it's crazy how it went from still to moving in circles so quickly! I braced my arm so it was steady and not moving, and it still kept going in circles everytime I tried to stop it.

Our a/s was at a place that is not allowed to tell you the sex, but they did let me look at the crotch and there was the classic '3 lines' and the tech said 'yes, looks like 3 lines' so I've been thinking it's about 90% it's a girl.

  • It was right for me with both pregnancies, however, I didn't try it with other family members, and I definitely didn't try it on DD. Very interesting!

  • I did this using my wedding band and a piece of my hair.  It showed boy swinging back and forth and I am having a boy.  I did it before I had my A/S though.  It was really freaky because it started moving all by itself and started swinging with more force.

  • We did this on everyone in my moms group, but we use a ring instead.  It was right for everyone but one so far.  Her's said girl, boy, girl, girl, and she had a boy last instead.  We have done it on people who are done having kids and it was exactly right for each of those.  Mine says girl, boy, girl, boy.  We shall see in December!  So far it's been right, so we'll see!

Do you know how this works if you have multiple children?  Do you use the youngest child's hairline?

Yes I think you use the youngest hairline. But I'm not 100% sure on that.
