Anyone have experience with mollescum contagiousum?

DS was just diagnosed with it.  I'm pretty bummed and hope that it doesn't get really bad.  He's only got two little bumps right now but they are not pretty and I really hope he doesn't get many more.  Any natural cures out there?  Anything you've done that helps?

I'm going to give him some sea salt (and actual salt water) baths.  Try some warm compresses and I just read tea tree oil might help.

I feel so bad for my little guy...

  • That sucks! I had it a few years ago. I can't remember exactly what happened. I think the doctor burned them off with liquid nitrate or whatever that stuff is they use for warts. I remember he offered me another option but I didn't want to be contagious for so long so I opted for the nitrate.I believe I had about 10 spots.

It's just a weird skin virus. It will go away if you leave it alone but then he'll be contagious for a few months. If you cover them up (like with a bandaid) and wash his hands then I wouldn't worry *too* much about being contagious but I'd keep him away from anyone with a limited immune system.

  • My daughter has it. She has had it for almost a year now. It is mainly on her tummy, but has spread onto her arms and legs a little. Her pediatrician tells us that any treatments he can offer will be more painful to her than just allowing the spots to "run their course". We recently started using tea tree oil on them and it seems to be helping them dry up and disappear- slowly, but it is working. Good Luck... If your situation is like ours, it will hurt and bother you much more than it will your little one.
