I feel like the answer here is obvious, but I'm lost. So we had our guy on June 13. At two months, he was 15 lbs. Our infant carseat (Graco) only goes to 22 lbs, so I expect him to grow out of it sooner rather than later. We have three bases for this carseat.
Does the next childseat up require a base? Is it easy to go from car to car?
Currently, DH drops DS off at my mom's for daycare, mom may drive him around sometimes, then I pick up. The three bases have been SUPER handy. But does the next carseat that he fits into use a base?
Does anyone have some guidance on the next step up? Is there some magical website that has the perfect answer? Advice for our situation that may not require purchasing three carseats? Help! I feel like the answer is simple, but I'll be honest, this is my first time to the carseat rodeo.
TIA!
Re: Really dumb carseat question...
The next size up are convertible carseats (go from rear facing to forward facing), and sadly, no they are not the easy to pick up and go "bucket seats" with the bases... It's a bummer because it's so much easier to pick them up and go..
This. My 18 mos old dd is still in her infant carseat because it goes up to 35# and 32". It's so nice to be able to move them between cars with just the bases. We'll be getting a convertible within the month but I'll miss not having the convenience of a infant carseat.

unfortunately, the 22 lb seat uses a different base than the 35 lb seat.
OP, you'll need a convertible. And with your son's size, I'd recommend something like the Graco MyRide or Sunshine Kids Radian. Is your son tall as well? If so, I'd stay far far away from britax, as their shell heights are really low for their weight limits.
