How much do y'all spend annually per child on clothes?
Gah, I guess I never really thought about it much before 2 kids. But now that we are almost all done with the baby clothes gifts for our youngest, I'm completely realizing how expensive it is to shop clothes for 2 kids. Of course each season, they outgrown their sizes. Sigh....
And now that I have a girl, I'm even more in trouble with clothing expenses!
Re: Kids Clothing Budget Poll
You need to have an anonymous poll before I will answer this :-)
Too much
I really have no idea. I always just pick up things here and there vs doing a big shopping trip at the beginning of each season. So I know it adds up and I'm sure it's way more than I should be spending... my downfall is totally girls' clothes though. On more than one occasion I've gone shopping for baby boy clothes and come home with bags of clothes for Caroline.
i do try to hit sales though, and generally buy from places like ON, Target, Gap, etc. But I do splurge at J&J and Gymboree some too....I shoudl really start doing the consignment thing.
We have so many hand me downs for Aerin and some for Alec that I have not had to spend too much. I also shop consignment and sales at stores. I probably spend at most $350/year combined for both kids. However, I've cut back because we have had to. If DH gets a perm job that pays well I will probably indulge more:) I definitely want a custom-made gator dress for Aerin--this will be my first purchase!!
Way too much. Way.Too.Much. And now with a girl? Worse.
I do shop sales a lot, because I like stores that are ridiculous for kids, like Janie and Jack, Norstrom, MiniBoden. I tend to buy for the next season when they go on sale, but I can't do that for Lila because she is a chunk.
dang, my husband should buy me some jewelry as thank you for how little i spend ;-)
i probably buy a shirt and pair of pants per month and usually on sale - so maybe i average $10/$20 per month? i have been very lucky with two generous friends with little boys that are older and well, he is a boy. i am sure as he gets older the hand me downs will lessen (he is so hard on his clothes as it is), and i have to admit i kind of look forward to going full on shopping for him.
Plus early this spring I was an idiot and bought DS mostly shorts with buttons and zippers. Then he PT'd and I realized how much easier elastic waist bands would be (and bought all new shorts). I've bought him several nice shirts just for photos or a work event for DH or me. And now that he's about to start preschool I realized that his wardrobe is mostly t-shirts that are random souvenirs from trips, so I bought him a few polos the other day. Ugh.
I could never add it up, I'd have a heart attack on the spot! Poor Ethan gets about 80-90% hand-me-downs from Jack, but I kinda wish I had someone to hand all of Lauren's stuff to as well...then I'd feel better about it! Her wardrobe is ridiculous for next summer, I saw so much cute stuff this year that either didn't even come in infant sizes (Ie. Matilda Jane or other smocked, boutique stuff) or just thought it would look better on a bigger baby that can sit up. Definitely since Lauren was born, my boys have gotten a bit of the shaft....Jack only wants to wear a soft t-shirt and elastic waist shorts and Crocs, so while we've been bumming around all summer I've let him do just that. But now I'm buying him some nicer stuff for fall, so I'm having to remember the boys side when I go in stores

I've been using the FB sites and Zulily for Lauren (all the smocked ones are killing me!!) and kinda getting away from Gymboree lately, although she did have some cute stuff from there this summer. Gap is hit or miss for me, I got a lot of great stuff last year for her to wear this winter, but I haven't seen anything currently that I really like. Target sometimes has cute stuff, but also haven't seen anything lately for the boys especially.
