I have about 1600oz of breastmilk in my deep freezer. At this point it is enough to last M for 50+ days. This is what is supposed to feed her from at least 9 months to a year. If we lose power I will risk losing my entire stash.
I have worked so hard to get that stash and I will be devastated.
I have a possible plan to pack my stash into a big cooler and head to a friend's house about 100 miles from us. She has a deep freezer and has room for me...but it means I have to travel with it for 2 1/2 hours and hope and pray that it does not all thaw.
Honestly I am more worried about that at this point. I want to do another IVF cycle for #2 sometime before M's 1st birthday and cannot be breastfeeding during that and she needs breastmilk until a year. ![]()
Re: serious but silly T&P request
Honestly, I don't think that's a silly request at all! Good luck!
Is there anything you can do now? Can you go buy bags of ice (if you can find them!) and stuff the freezer with the ice so it lasts a little longer in case the power does go out?
That is not silly at all! You don't have a generator that you can hook up for it? If not, I would defitely pack it up and speed to my friends house asap

I ff fed my son, so I have no idea--how much room does that much breast milk take up? Could your DH get in touch with anyone at the hospital to see if there is room somewhere there? I mean, his connections have to come in handy some how, right????
Keep us posted, please!! And, stay safe!!
That is not silly AT ALL!! Good thoughts and prayers coming for all that liquid gold!!
That is an impressive stash, and I don't blame you for being worried. I'd be nervous too. I cried one night when I dumped a bag that had 6 ounces in it. Will be sending T&Ps that you don't lose any!
Can you purchase some dry ice (if there's any to be found in your area)? We own a bakery, and the power went out once. We were able to save an entire industrial freezer full of homemade scones with blocks and blocks of dry ice. Just a thought.
Thanks everyone!
We don't have a generator but I have done what I can to protect it at this point. I put a blanket over it to help keep the cold in and I did put some extra ice in there too. I am at a friend's house about 10 minutes from mine and if we lose power for an extended time I will head home and check on things.
And just to share...we have an 8 cubic foot upright freezer and it is pretty much full. In fact I told my DH before he left that I may have to go purchase another one (the chest type) because I am running out of room.
My fingers are firmly crossed!
