Pregnant after IF

carpal tunnel?

Has anyone had this during pregnancy?  Apparently it can flare up since your joints are swollen.   My left wrist hurts so bad, especially at night and it tingles. I can tell it is swollen when I put on my watch and wedding ring.   I am right handed but right hand feels fine.  Do you think a brace would help or is there anything else I can do?

Re: carpal tunnel?

  • I haven't had any issues but I've heard it can be a problem while pg.  I'd call the dr. to see if they had any suggestions.

I hope your wrist feels better soon!

  • Yup, I have it. It's worse in my left hand (thankfully I'm a righty). It was advised for me to wear braces on each hand at night and I can say, it does help. You don't need anything fancy, either. I just got mine at good ol' Walmart.

  • I do. It really only hurts me when I'm sleeping tho. My right hand is worse than my left. It's tough when I lose the covers and attempt to pull them back up on me... i'm sure it's pretty funny to watch since I can't grasp anything :)

    My doc recommended wrist braces.

  • Thanks! I picked up the braces and it already feels better with it on. I will take your advice and sleep in them.

  • I am early in the pg so I don't have carpal tunnel but I had it about a year or more ago pre-pg.  I tried splints for awhile at night and it helped, but mine got so bad that it required surgery.  Obviously surgery isn't an option for you and typically carpal tunnel resolves on its own after pregnancy, but try wearing the splints at least @ night and if it's bothersome, you can wear them during the day, too.  Feel better!
