In my pre-baby days, I would have stocked up on food and booze and invited the family over to play games and drink. We're far enough inland that we only have to worry about flooding (although DH thinks it's a smart idea to take out our window a/c units).
With baby I'm still going to stock up on food (not booze) and we'll spend a quiet weekend as just our little family. I'm planning to cook and finally write thank you notes (I know, I'm terrible). What are your plans?
Re: S/O Irene - What Preparations are You Making?
I'm pretty well stocked. We're just going to put everything from the deck into the shed tonight and ride it out. We are pretty far inland and nowhere near a flood zone, so, really, the biggest risk to us is downed trees (which I'm moderately nervous about) and losing power.
Right now it's just going to be the three of us. We're trying to get Glenn's family (MIL, BIL, SIL, BIL, and 2 nephews) to come ride out the storm with us because they live on a peninsula near NYC (Newark Bay on one side, Hudson River on the other side) and we just think they would be better off here, but, so far, they say they aren't leaving unless there is a mandatory evacuation (which I, personally, think is stupid).
I'm pretty stocked up on food (even if we do lose power). We have to put the patio furniture away and take down the gazebo (not all too sturdy to begin with). Don't forget to stop at the ATM and take out some cash now. If you lose power, you won't be able to get to it.
Other than that, just the standard flashlights batteries and hoping for the best. We're a few miles inland so hopefully it will be enough.

Just got home from the grocery strore, took out a bunch of candles., made sure the batteries and flash lights are charged.
Blowing up the air mattress to sleep in D's room in case we lose power.
I am going to go get some ice and fill up our 5-day cooler and bring it into the house in case we do lose power.
DH is outside now securing all of our lawn furniture and moving as much of our outdoor stuff as we can into the garage.
Oh, and I did pick up some wine!
We've got a working flashlight, and we're OK on food. We did grab a 24 pack of water, but we needed to do that anyway. We're discussing moving one of our cars to the street (our spaces are next to a tree that has some dead limbs and always drops branches) and we'll bring in DD's outside toys and stuff, too.
I'm most worried about the possibility of the baby coming during the storm. Our plan is to have DH's parents come down to watch DD1, but they'd have to drive down 95 from CT and that just isn't going to happen. I've been having some random cramping the past couple of days, too, so I don't think the big day is too far off. It's a gamble. Not to mention our hospital is over 1/2 hr away...if I can't get there, I can go to a closer hospital, but I would much prefer to deliver at MY hospital with MY midwives.
We made sure to have food that doesn' tneed to be cooked. I'm going to make some food for DS tonight (celiac- limits on what he can eat) to make sure we have a supply. Made sure batteries are stocked, and flashlights handy.
Past that, not much else. Where we live- we'll get a lot of rain and I expect to lose power. But I don't expect it to be for TOO long (more than a day or so) and we live close enough to a lot of amenities... just not too concerned.
W/ Isabel, we lived in the city (Baltimore) and close enough to the water that we did move one of our cars to my DH's work parking garage. But our area wasn't flooded. Now that we're in the county, I don't expect flooding to be an issue.
