School-Aged Children

LO is getting Glasses and starting a new school!!!

Hello, I'm new to this board so first I would like to say Hello!

Next I wanted to vent a little about my daughter in need of glasses. She is 6 and going into 1st grade at a brand new school that she will not know anyone. She is getther her glasses the day before school starts and she is super excited about them of course what 6 year old wouldn't be? But me on the other hand am freaking out just a little.

I know how cruel kids can be and with her starting a new school and meeting new friends I'm a little worried. My daughter is not one to shy away from making new friends and I know she will be confident in her glasses but no one else in my family has ever needed them so I guess I'm having more of a problem with it than anyone.

Sorry needed to vent.

  • You know, at that age, glasses are still really cool.  My 7 y/o doesn't need glasses and insisted on buying some "accessory" glasses from Claires last weekend.  :)

  • I can completly relate to you. DD#2 just started Kindergarten and wears thick glasses as well as a patch each day at school 8 hours a day. I was soo worried for her but I have realized that kids are really accepting of kids that wear glasses now a days. There are soo many people who do wear glasses that it is seen as normal. She will be fine, just wait and see :)

  • Actually kids aren't cruel about glasses like they were when I was little(a very long time ago).  Girls in my kids' school actually wear those fake accessory glasses because they think glasses are cool!!  My daughter got glasses last year, she was 7 and all her classmates were so excited for her.  And glasses for kids are so cute now, unlike all those huge hideous pairs I had when I was a kid.  LOL!!  No worries, she will be fine.
  • I agree with everything the girls said here and welcome!
