  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Yes, although I would like to stay home or have DH stay home (which is more of a possibility).
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Yes
    3. Did IF affect your decision? No

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Yes, I'm taking 12 weeks of maternity leave then coming back full-time.

    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Yes and no.  Realistically, yes, we need me to be working, so I'm sure we'll be doing that.  I'm not sure I would be a good SAHM, but I do wish I could work part-time or some from home (not feasible with my job).

    3. Did IF affect your decision? No, not really.  I do have family members trying to guilt me into being a SAHM since they bring up how long we waited to have her, etc... I get their point, but it doesn't make money magically appear in our accounts.

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Probably not.
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Not yet. I might work from home and get a nanny.
    3. Did IF affect your decision? Yes, hence the not 100% sure. I think of the cost of treatments for a sibling or adoption and that all of our family lives far away. It stinks.

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born?  I'm taking 12 weeks off and then I'll be back to work full time.
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision?  Yes, at this point I'm 100% sure.
    3. Did IF affect your decision? No, I like my job and financially we couldn't afford to have one of us stay home full time.

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Yes. I just looked over my leave this morning and it looks like I'll be taking 11-12 weeks and then coming back to work.
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Yes. I'd prefer to be a SAHM, but we need my salary.
    3. Did IF affect your decision? Not at all. The "plan" was always for DH to go back to school two days a week to get his degree and watch the baby/work evenings the other 3 days. Ideally by the time baby is 3, he'll have a job like mine and I can SAH and have more babies.

  • 1.  No, my contract ends 4 weeks before my EDD.  We are moving (probably out of state) when baby is 7 months old so I am not going to seek out a new assignment.  I may consider looking for a part time position once we get settled into our new place.

    2.  YES Big Smile

    3.  Not really.

    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? 99% sure but that could change, hard to say until your baby is here IMO
    3. Did IF affect your decision? Not at all.  I like my job and the money I make.  I have always felt that I would not be cut out to be a SAHM.

  • I will answer sort of retrospectively, since I am a SAHM now. But when I was pg with DD...

    1. No.
    2. I was 99% sure of my decision. We planned on it, but I didn't resign from my job until after my maternity leave to make sure it was right for me. Never having been a mom before, I didn't know exactly how I would react to being home with her all day.
    3. IF or not, I would have stayed home. My salary barely would have covered daycare, so me staying home was also slightly financial. We could have done daycare, but I would have needed to really love my job, really had a hard time staying at home, and been able to see a future for myself there for it to be worth it. And none of those things were true.

    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Yes, actually my boss is the one that offered up that brilliant work schedule and I accepted right away before he could change his mind!
    3. Did IF affect your decision?  Yes it did, I had always planned on going back to work full time with my 1st and then maybe being a SAHM with the 2nd but now that we are unsure what size our family will be, I just want to be home with the baby as much as I can.  We tried for so long to get here, that I'm ready to be super hands on and really enjoy every minute.

I'll take a 12 weeks FMLA and then about a 4 month LOA before returning to work full time on a flexible schedule.

Not in terms of returning to work, but in terms of how long I take off after baby is born. This could possibly be our only one.

  • 1) I left my FT job when we were doing our FET

    2) For now, yes, though I'm thinking when they are maybe two I'll think of doing something again. I made significantly more than it would cost to put the kids in DC/hire a nanny, so it's a lifestyle adjustment for us to live on DH's salary/giving up half our income.

    3) Yes, having to travel for work when cycling, dealing w/m/c and bedrest doesn't really work for me.  We decided getting and staying pg was our top priority right now.

  • 1.  Yep - I'd love to be a SAHM, but I'm the primary bread winner so there really isn't a choice.  We're exploring the possiblity of DH becoming a SAHD.

    2. 100% sure --

    3.  I don't think IF changed this decision...we always knew that DH had the job iwth the flexiblity that would enable us to have kids and that my job would sustain us finanically.  There are days when I'm disappointed, but I know I'm doing what's best for our family.

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born?  Yes, can't afford not to in some capacity.  It will all depend on daycare vs. my actual take home salary.

    3. Did IF affect your decision? no

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Yes. I will be taking the standard 6-8 weeks off then going back to work.
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Yes, there is no doubt about it. We own a condo but want to get a house someday.
    3. Did IF affect your decision? No. Even if it had, it would have been towards me staying at work. IF treatments are not cheap so if we ever want another kid (besides the house dream), we would need my salary.

  • 1. Yes, but I get a 12 month maternity leave and then will have to take 2 months of vacation immediately because my company won't let me carry them over so I will have 14 months off, 6 of those months will be at my full pay and the other 8 months will be at much less pay but will still cover some basics.  I think I'll be ready to go back after 14 months away.

    2.  Yes, 100% about returning.  What I am less sure about is my longer term career goals.  I love my job, have made a successful name for myself in my company and always thought I would be trying to go for partnership.  I'm prepared to adjust the long term vision based on how much more demanding things get at work as my accountability increases vs. what I'm prepared to sacrifice in other areas.  Sacrificing kid/husband is not an option so I'm prepared to scale back on other things (like work) first.

    3.  No, I always identified as a mom who would return to my career.  A super long mat leave is helpful, I don't know if my decisions would be different if I had only 6-12 weeks.

  • 1.  I will be working after the baby is born.  I doubt I really take much time off.  I own a preschool center ... I have an incredible staff that will handle things while I'm gone.  I intend to do some work from home (payroll and the like) and then return to work a few days a week.  I'm not entirely sure yet, but my plan is to work 2 - 3 full days a week (with baby at the sitter down the street or with my mom) and then more than likely stay home at least one and maybe 2 days per week or only work part time and have the baby here with me.

    2.  Yes 100% sure.  When I bought the business I did so knowing I would continue to run it after I had kid(s).  I've waited a long time and come January the business will be in a better place so it should be good timing.

    3.  IF did not affect my decision at all ... in fact, it probably delayed us actually starting IVF because I had work stuff I needed to handle before we were in a place to start treatments.  It has never factored into whether or not I still work.

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? I already work part time, but I will likely cut down to 3 days/week the following school year after the LO is born. Tenatively, my maternity leave should allow me to be off from late January until the end of the current school year, then I'll be off the next summer.
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Of that much, yes. There's a very slight possibility that I can quit work completley, but only if DH gets another promotion before next August.
    3. Did IF affect your decision? Nope, I've always planned to stay home with our kids if at all possible. We're slowly working toward that goal.

    imageflycka:
    1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Yes, I was a teacher and had 5 months off (mat leave combined with summer)

    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? I was 100% sure about the decision only because we lived in a very expensive area and there was no possible way we could afford for me to stay home.

    3. Did IF affect your decision? No, fertile or infertile I would have had to work, even though I didn't want to.

  • 1. Will you be working after the baby is born? Almost certainly No
    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? Not really. I'm giving up a good salary, and I've always worked so I'm apprehensive about the huge lifestyle change. If work would allow me to take some unpaid leave (beyond the 12 weeks I get), or would allow me to come back part time, that would likely change my decision. But for now, we can survive on one salary and DH's job is very demanding, so I'm trying to go with my gut instinct to stay home.
    3. Did IF affect your decision? Yes, quite a lot. The time it took to get pregnant allowed us to really get our finance straight and figure out where we could make cuts to allow me to SAH. Going through IF also changed my priorities in terms of my career.

    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? DH and I both know and understand that I have to return to work once baby is born, but we're not sure if I'll be returning PT or FT yet.
    3. Did IF affect your decision?  In a way, yes.  We could have built up a nest egg so that I could have taken time off for maybe a few years to be a SAHM but that money was spent on years of IF treatments.

    2. Are you 100% sure of your decision? not 100%, but my job wouldn't cover daycare and a car, and I don't love it THAT much. So, if we sell my car, I can stay home. (even though that makes me running. Dog training business almost impossible.)
