Gentle Giraffe or Seahorse

Good Morning Ladies,

I've seen several posts on here about the FP Seahorse and they make me want to go out and buy one for DS because it is so darn cute everything I've read on here about it.  The only thing is that I worry about it being too stimulating for my DS because he LOVES anything that lights up.  I found the Cloud B Gentle Giraffe online and was wondering if any of you have it for your baby and what you think of it?  I'm still leaning towards the Seahorse because it is so much cuter in my opinion and slightly cheaper.  So, let me know your thoughts....TIA!

Re: Gentle Giraffe or Seahorse

  • DD loves her FP Seahorse!  It calms her down and puts everyone in the house in a great mood :)  Highly recommend it!!!

  • I have been wondering about the seahorse myself.  Do you let LO sleep with it?

  • Seahorse stays in crib and although she's really happy when she goes down for the night in her crib and tries to touch it, she becomes really calm about 5 minutes later.  SHe is excited to see it and then it seems like she realizes, oh yeah, I'm sleepy.

  • We have both the Gentle Giraffe and the Seahorse. For us they are both great but at different times. DD loves to cuddle the seahorse when she is tired and just relaxing. I usually rock her to sleep so she cuddles with me as she falls asleep and I do not feel comfortable letting LO sleep with the seahorse in her crib. So that is where the Gentle Giraffe comes in. I have Jeffery (that is what we named the giraffe) attached to the arm of the mobile in her crib (I feel comfortable with this because it is up out of the crib) so I turn it on when I put her down in the crib. She usually wakes up a bit when I put her down but as soon as I turn on Jeffery she goes back to sleep. We got the travel sized Gentle Giraffe so that we can strap it to her car seat, it definitely helps her take a nap when we are out and about. HTH

Great idea! I need to find one of those.

We have the seahorse, used in while she was in the bassinet but don't use now that she's in her crib bc we have a sound machine in her room. Now, we take it to my parents' for overnight trips.

  • I love our seahorse! The light isn't all that bright or "eye catching" for babies, so I don't think it will be too stimulating. It has more of a night light effect as opposed to "hey look at me" blinky lights. It plays soft lullabies and in between each song it makes ocean sounds.

I don't have the gentle giraffe though, so my opinions are one-sided.

  • I vote seahorse.  I don't have the giraffe so maybe that isn't an impartial vote, the the seahorse has been a miracle worker in our house.  DD1 loved and and DD2 loves it even more.  The FP Seahorse is now my go-to gift when a friend has a new baby.  They don't get it at first, but then they discover its magic.
  • We have the Gentle Giraffe. I fell in love with it when I was pregnant and got it for LO before all the seahorse hooah began. It puts LO and I both to sleep and I love all the different settings. We are using the waterfall setting right now. And it is super adorable! It's something that will grow with LO much better than the seahorse, too (IMO).

  • We have the sleep sheep which is the same as the giraffe.  We used it while she was in the bassinet because it plays for 45 minutes and the sounds are very soothing.  It is attached to her crib now, but we don't use it as much.  We bought her a seahorse and received another as a gift.  She didn't really enjoy them until she was about 3 months old.  DH makes the seahorse swim for her :)  We use the seahorse more for naps during the day or to calm her down.  A friend of mine has a 1 yr. old and her favorite toy is the seahorse.  My LO is just starting to figure out how to turn it on by herself.  I think she'll love it even more after that.

Sorry for rambling on, lol.  Basically, they're not comparable; they're two different things.  One is a sound machine only.  The other is a toy that happens to light up (think gloworm from the 80's) and make relaxing music.

  • We actually have both. I think DD likes the seahorse better because she watches the lights and they calm her as she falls asleep.

DH thinks she likes the giraffe better. Who knows, but we alternate. Both work equally well for us.
