I know there's at least two of you! Quick question about this hurricane.
Are yall doing anything to prepare for it? Or evacuating? I heard tonight that we're under a state of emergency until it passes. My mother is urging SO and I to evacuate with them tomorrow night. Southern Delaware is supposed to be getting evacuated tomorrow. Not sure what we should do! Just wanted to see what other Delaware moms were doing.
Stay safe this weekend!
Re: Delaware ladies
If you are within 3 miles of the ocean or Delaware Bay, there is a mandatory evacuation. Southern DE is going to get harder than Northern DE. But that is really not important since it's just going to be bad any way you look at it.
Up here is Wilmington, where the Bay is more the DE River... We are taking precautions.
You should tie down or bring in all outdoor furniture, shut off any propane tanks, and close up windows and garage doors. We are stocking up on drinking water (a must for us moms). With this much rain, the water system can become contaminated.
It's highly likely we will lose power. Flashlights, batteries, food (PB&J) that can be eaten without being cooked or going bad. I read a recommendation to turn the fridge up to it's highest setting and keep it closed so if power does go out the food started extra cold and might not go bad.
Candles, matches, lighter.
Our basement floods in heavy rain, so we are preparing for up to 6 inches of water to come in.
I'm nervous because MH has a 10 hour shift on Sunday. I told him last night that I was not comfortable with him being at work (This is his PT job) while I'm home alone and 5 weeks from due date. If the phones go and anything should happen, I would have no way of getting him.
If your parents are going, it's probably a good idea to go with them.
