Just need some advice on what you ladies think about still having a shower this weekend with the hurricane coming? I am in MA and it's not supposed to hit us until Monday around 2 am, and my shower is Sunday at 11 am, but my mom just informed me that some people have emailed her and told her that they won't be able to make it if it's really bad (which I don't think it will be on Sunday morning - I have a feeling it's just going to end up being rain around here at that point.)
It's at a country club and everything is already paid for, so my mom can't just cancel it or she would lose everything. But we could postpone it. The only other date they have open is Sept 24th and I would be 39 weeks then, so there is a chance I could go into labor if it's that close to my due date.
WWYD? Have it and run the risk that there won't be many people there (my mom would lose out on some money because she already paid per head.) Or postpone it? Other ideas are welcome too - we just can't move the location b/c my mom already paid for everything.
PS - I haven't been involved in the planning up until now - I only knew the date - but with the storm coming my mom asked for my input and wants me to make a decision. Now I wish it was a surprise so I didn't have to make this decision!
Re: Shower with the storm coming? WWYD (a little long)
PS - I meant to mention that I want everyone to be safe too! I hope I didn't come off as not caring about safety in my post.
And that goes out to all the Bump ladies - stay safe when the storm does hit!

How far are your guests traveling? Did she give you any idea how many people have contacted her?
Most Bostonians I know are pretty resilient when it comes to driving in nasty weather. If it were me I'd risk the storm over having the shower at 39 weeks.
Good luck!
Thanks ladies! Most guests would only be traveling 30 minutes at most, and I think only 5-7 people contacted her, so it's not too many so far.
I know my family will show no matter what (they are those resilient Bostonians) and they make up a large portion of the group so there should still be a good amount of people there.
Have your mom call the country club. They may be able to help you decide. Usually with a storm approaching in La, the local country club would cancel all parties 24 hours before the hurricanes hit. My sister worked those types of events all the time. It was so the club could prepare for the storm with out ruining any event. They even canceled a wedding reception or two.
You can also decide to have a meet the baby shower instead. Have it six weeks after your due date.
If the other date is your only option then I would either try to have it, whether and safety permitting, or cancel rather than reschedule. Encourage your mom to speak up to the club about any sort of refund (probably won't give you the entire thing back, but in this situation, with evacuations happening, they might be more considerate).
I think 39 weeks is too close to the date to travel, even a half an hour away, and to be on your feet with your guests all afternoon. Plus, think of all the things you'll need to set up from the shower before LO arrives... with only a week to go! Anyone who can't make it this weekend would probably send you the gift instead.

FYI, a Cat1 is still 74-95 mph winds and 4-5ft. water surges. As a guest, I'm not risking my safety in those conditions to give someone a gift basket I could easily mail instead.
Um, I realize this. I live in Eastern NC and am about to bear the brunt of the storm. It is not supposed to hit the MA area until approximately 12 hours after her shower. I think that gives people plenty of time to drive the 30 mins back to their houses!
