My newest issue how stinky she and the diapers are after sleeping through the night. Her little lady area smells so stinky in the morning we do a quick bottom wash in the morning before daycare. Ick! This time it doesn't smell like mold, it did before, now it just smells like urine/ammonia.
I feel like I am battling one CD issue after another.
The is my routine:
Cold wash, hot wash w/ detergent & baking soda, cold wash
Any suggestions? I'm so sick of these things stinking! I don't want to give up but, seriously, I just want it to be a little bit easier!
HELP! TIA!
Re: CD's: If its not one thing its another!!!
Why are you using baking soda?
Are you using any diaper creams?
The owner at a reputable CD store in Chicago suggested I use baking soda to strip the diapers--- so I use it when I strip them. She said to use this instead of Dawn or OxyClean because its natural.
Seriously, I'll take any suggestions!
What detergent are you using, and how much?
Also, ditto Pixy, if you're using microfiber... don't.
Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)
So do you use the baking soda every time? Have you tried doing an additional rinse and spin after the last cold wash? What about sunning them, when possible?
I've noticed that my microfiber inserts seem to hold on to smells longer than my hemp ones.
if you have rinse cycle, i would add a double rinse cycle at the end to get more detergent off your dipes. the amount of detergent you are using plus just the one extra cold cycle, could be your problem. i never used baking soda so I don't know about that. one thing thats helped is to bleach the diapers once a month. i also use vinegar once a week. sometimes when the diapers are super wet in the morning they are just kinda stinky. glad its not a mold smell though, that would be bad! good luck. don't give up - just try different wash routines.
ETA: my routine is as follows
double cold rinse, hot wash with 2tbsp (for a large load) tide powder, double cold rinse.
Eta: My routine: hot soak with detergent, spin but no rinse. Hot wash/double cold rinse. Oh, and I use Calgon because of my medium-hard water. It helps the detergent work better and rinse cleaner.
