Noa(h) for a girl

Okay so I have fallen in love with the name Noa. It is actually an Israli girls name and I have a few friends who actually known gorwn women with this name. I think it is beautiful. But I A LOT of people think of it as just a boys name. So what do you think? Yay or nay? And suggest middle names with it if you would like.

  • Everyone will initially think "boy" when they hear the name "Noa", whether it's in class, job interviews, etc. That is enough for me to never choose a boy name for a girl.

  • oh, please no.
  • 100% yay. I am Jewish though, know a lot of girls named Noa and live in a Jewish area. If you use Noa, do not use the H though.

  • I have no problem with the name. If you use it though I would spell it Noa and feel free to educate people about the origins of the name.

  • This is a guilty pleasure little girl name for DH and I.  The year we read through the Bible we counted more girl Noahs than boy.  However, some of our best friends just named their DS Noah so we wouldn't use it.  I would suggest using a very feminine MN.

Unless you plan on moving to Israel or live in a very Jewish area, no.

A LOT of people think it is a boy's name because ... it is. A very popular one, too.

Noa will just make people think you are trying to be you-neek with a boy's name on a girl. Yes, I know it is legit, but really not a fan.

     This.

  • I am actually ok with this one because of the names origin.  Please spell it Noa for a girl.
  • DH thinks the name Noa(h) sounds too feminine for a boy, but we'd never use it for a girl.  Unless you're Jewish or live in an area where there are lots of Jews, don't do it.  It's too popular as a boy's name, and it'll just be confusing for your daughter later on in life.

  • Boys names for girls are my guilty pleasure, so normally I would be all over this.  But, Noah is just so popular for boys right now that your poor daughter would constantly be mistaken for a boy.

  • It's a legit name with street cred in a place like NYC. DD's BFF is actually a girl named Noa. But I can see how it might be an issue elsewhere in America...

  • I appreciate the idea, and I don't hate boys names on girls (for the most part), but I just can't get on board with this. It's just such a popular boys name, she is going to be surrounded by little boys named Noah. I think it would be totally fine as a middle name though.
