Success after IF

What do you "do" with your 7 (or so) month old?

I feel like I bore him. I have henry to myself 3 days a week (1 weekday, and the weekend). We sing, dance, play with toys, walk the lake with the dog, go to the food store (1/wk if that), eat, nap and pee/poop. I don't know if it's just me having an off day-I have been working a lot this week and I haven't spent much time with him because I've been getting home just in time to put him to bed, but it seems like he wants nothing to do with me today. Maybe I'm not cool enough :-/. But seriously, he so happy when DH or Gram are in the picture, and sometimes he doesn't light up for me like them. obviously i am very happy he loves his family members but I guess I have the "working outside of the home mommy blues".....

  • Jack and Braley are 9 months, and we pretty much do the same thing!

We do music class : )  It used to be easier when they would sit in the same spot, but now - I sit them down, facing me, and start singing.  They take off instantly in opposite directions lol.

I work with them on skills like standing, cruising, clapping, waving, etc.  I let them explore, pick them up and hold them when they bump their heads...that is pretty much it.

We are covering rocket science next week : )

  • First of all, I'm sure he wants PLENTY to do with you (hopefully we have many more years before that becomes the case :))  Sometimes, I think they just like a change of scene/face....I find the same thing with my LO sometimes.  You're doing a GREAT job - hugs!

Henry and L are the exact same age (I think just a few days apart!) so I can relate.  I do a lot of the same things with her -- play with her toys, go on walks, sing/dance, eat, nap.  She also loves to go to the park -- she loves the baby swings and enjoys watching the other kids when she gets tired of the swing.  We also are in a music class and she's really enjoyed that - her big sister loved it too when she was a baby (and toddler!).  Sometimes I also take her with me to a cafe since she likes to watch what's going on around her.  We've also done a bit of swimming in the pool and gone to the beach but she wasn't huge fans of either....got sick of the pool pretty quickly and tried to eat every grain of sand she could pick up on the beach.

Since she tries to put everything in her mouth anyway, I also bought some puffs so she could practice trying to put those in her mouth so I'll just plop her in her high chair and give her some puffs (the dogs love it and just park themselves under the chair waiting for the puffs to fall).

  • for me the big thing in keeping both of us entertained is to go places. music class, playrooms, or even just going to target or the grocery store so that the baby can people-watch and we can practice names of things.

and i'm sure he is crazy about you! you are an awesome mama!

  • Your home on the weekends right? I would totally suggest doing music class, gymboree, my gym, swimming..ect..It's a great bonding for you and H and you will also meet some other moms in your area as well. Or have you done meetup? I am sure there are tones of groups in your area and they always have super fun activities that you can do. I did a lot of meet ups when I first had Jake, it was great. Now not so much cause he is older and I have sort of made my own friends/ play dates.

  • That sounds like what we did at that point :)  lots of walks, singing, dancing, trying everything to make him giggle...i think we were stacking blocks and watching him knock them over by then... not sure there is much else to do! :)  And he looooves you!  (but I understand getting paranoid  on his "off" days and the working mommy blues!)

    Haha!

I know he's learning every second of every day.

I do work on his motor skills, etc.  Maybe I need to get him out more on the days I have off with him to make it more special on our days together.  DH and my MIL watch him in our home, so I bet getting him out more would do the trick.  I've become such a slave to grocery deliveries and amazon mom that I never leave the house unless I'm going to work!

    Thanks ladies :)

That is a good idea.  I have friends with LO's but they are all SAHM and spend the weekends with their DH's. My DH often works on the weekends so I end up feeling like the third wheel. I do the occasional GTG on my 1 weekday off.  I def want to sign up for a swim class in the fall.  Maybe Gymboree too.  :)  Thanks!

  • You're doing fine. DD spent a weekend with DH and now I'm chopped liver. It is what it is.

  • I hear you!  DH is DS's favorite right now - it seems to go in phases.  He also looks at his daycare teachers when I get him and say hi to him and try to get a smile.

As for what we do - same stuff you mentioned plus run other errands.  I used to feel bad about dragging him places but I've noticed that he really likes it.  He watches EVERYTHING and loves all of the colors and lights in the stores.

We also try to take him swimming on the weekends - totally wears him out but he likes it.  Hard to do on your own though.  Baby pool in the yard maybe?  We spend a lot of time sitting on the floor with toys - I sit with him and try to model movements with the toys.
