gender neutral baby clothes

So after seeing the Carter's sale, I went to stock up on some items we're missing.  I was going to be very practical and get gender neutral clothes since we're hoping to have another LO relatively soon (this is our first).  But I really am sick of yellow ducks and brown and green everything.  The little boy stuff is just so much cuter IMO...  I just don't like the gender neutral clothes as much--it's okay to buy a bunch of blue, right? :)

Re: gender neutral baby clothes

  • I'm not team green, but I love the color blue and bought a bunch of blue before we found out what we were having- even decorated the nursery with blues, greens and browns- then we found out we were having a boy.  Everyone told me I must have had some "mom's intuition" going on or something, but I swear I just like the color Wink  So I say go for the blues!!

  • We are having a boy, and I just spent $90 on all boy clothes at carters! If we have a girl next time, I will just have more shopping to do!
  • I love the blues for my DS! I'm not a fan of gender-neutral clothes. Honestly you will be so excited to buy for a future LO that you probably won't even use the clothes. We planned a gender-neutral nursery for DD to use for future LO's and she's still in it! We did a completely different room for DS with blues and greens... Our plan didn't work because I just love the boy colors!!

  • I'm team green but have chosen a number of things in blue just because I like the colour.  I *hate* the colour "rules" for babies.  We'll put a little girl in blues and we'll even put a little boy in (some) pink!  And I agree about the gender neutral stuff - they really need to stop doing everything in white, yellow and green.  There are other colours (like why does almost no baby clothing come in reds?!  I love red!) and just because you use traditionally "boy" or "girl" colours doesn't mean you have to use them in traditional ways.

  • You will only use a handful of gender neutral clothes.  We had a bunch before DS was born (team green) and only used a few of them.  Mainly b/c people bought us clothes after he was born b/c they were so excited about the surprise and I loved going "boy" clothes shopping after he was born.  But also b/c all babies look like little old men.  And in your emotional post-partum state, you probably want to dress your LO in clothes that are going to make it very clear if they are a girl or a boy.  Smile

I have the cutest red and white striped onesie all raring to go!  Because seriously, where is the red stuff?  Especially since fall is coming, there should be a host of burnt oranges, reds, golds...

Just, please don't clothe the child in red AND gold together. I don't want to have to start chanting "Take off that red shirt! Take off that red shirt!". ;)

  • I'm sooooooooooooooooooo sick of yellow !!! That's mostly what we've been given so far... yello ducks, yellow monkeys, yellow cows.... If it keeps going this way the baby is going to look like a marshmallow Peep for the first couple of months... Luckily, recently I've been able to find cute brown outfits that are gender neutral, as I figure I can pair it up w/ blue for a boy, or pink for a girl!
  • I am in the same boat about wanting another one fairly soon - and we are fine putting a girl in blue if the next one shall be a daughter.....no harm done there....

Why would ANYONE put red and gold together?  I can't think of a better way to induce vomiting.

  • We're team green too. The only colors we've excluded from buying is pink and purple. I have a lot of blue stuff..I wear a lot of blue myself. I've had friends ask if we are having a boy because of some of the blue/brown outfits. I figure if we have a girl we'll get a lot of pink/purple stuff as gifts. I think it's just a matter of preference. I can always put a barrette or bow in my little girls hair if she's wearing blue/brown, I can't do anything like that with a little boy in pink or purple!
