Bottles and pump parts in dishwasher?

So I was just reading someone's post about sterilizing bottles, etc. Am I the only dumb person that didn't know you can put this stuff in the dishwasher? Is there a risk of the plastic leeching chemicals during the heated dry cycle or am I totally making that up? do you guys put the stuff on the top rack for a whole (heated) cycle?

Re: Bottles and pump parts in dishwasher?

  • I wash bottles and pump parts in the dishwasher all the time, but I never use the dry cycle (we air dry to save $).  Maybe you could take them out before the heat cycle starts? I don't know, but you're right that it seems like it would break down the plastic.

  • I don't, but more because we don't run the dishwasher more than once every few days. When I do put anything of DS's in the dishwasher (the bottles we feed with if he has one at home), I put them on the top shelf and run the sanitize cycle.

The pump stuff (including pump bottles), I just hand wash and use the Medela micro-steam bags every few days.

  • You can put that stuff in the top drawer and I don't think the heating cycle is a problem actually. I've washed bottles and nipples a few times and had the heat on because I was washing ALL of them and needed to make sure they'd be ready for LO's next feed. Didn't have any problems.
