I saw your post on this thread about Military May Mamas https://community.thebump.com/cs/ks/forums/ShowThread.aspx?PostID=57163712#57233540 but saw it rather late.
Anyway, DH and I will be moving to Offutt next January; can I pester you with a few questions?
Do you live in on-base or military housing? If yes, do you like it?
Is it easy to make friends? What kinds of activities do you like to do there?
I could rattle off a few more questions but I'll leave it there for now.
Thanks in advance!
Re: **Tamnate**
Hey! Ask any questions you need
We do live in the off-base military housing, and we love it. We were super lucky to get a brand new house, but they have been doing renovations on all the old housing as well. We have friends in pretty much every kind of house, and haven't seen anything we don't like. The on-base housing is nice too.
We made a bunch of friends right off the bat, mostly from DH's squadron; he's in the band here, and at the time he enlisted there were several others around our age that enlisted as well. They've all since PCS'd, which kinda blows, and they all moved around the time we had DS, so it' been hard to make new friends. BUT, I will say, I haven't really met anyone out here who isn't just really nice.
As far as activities, Omaha is a really cool town to hang out in. There are a lot of great restaurants, there's a fun downtown area, and the zoo is pretty good (everyone raves about it, but I grew up going to the San Diego zoo, and there's really not much of a comparison there...but it's definitely a fun place to go).
Are you planning on working once you get out here? Again, feel free to ask anything and I'll do my best to answer; hopefully these answered your initial questions well enough
I'm so glad to hear that the housing is nice and that it's easy to make friends. DH and I are thinking of living (preferably) off base in military housing and I'm relieved to hear that the housing is nice. We were in Mountain Home AFB Idaho (I still live in Idaho while DH is PCS'd overseas where I can't go
) and the housing here is just really really really REALLY old, with the exception of a few newly built neighborhoods.
It'll be great to be near a large city again too! Mountain Home is very small, but still within a reasonable driving distance to Boise which is a pretty fun "little big" city.
I'm looking forward to moving soon! How much longer are you going to be there?
