Success after IF

This is why I am having anxiety about kindergarten

Jon and Matthew are supposed to go to kindergarten this year. We got a letter today from the elementary school saying when kindergarten open house is. The mail was delivered today. The open house? This morning. It was mailed out yesterday.

Jon and Matthew are supposed to have a typical kindergarten with a shared aid in the morning and a special needs learning disabled kindergarten in the afternoon. It is in their IEP; the legal paperwork they agreed to. They forgot to enroll them in the typical kindergarten! It's 3:30 and everyone has left for the day so no one is answering their phones. Can I keep them at home with me forever? :'(

Re: This is why I am having anxiety about kindergarten

  • :( This is so sad. I work in special ed at a charter school (I'm a speech therapist) and it makes me so sad when parents come into our office practically in tears because their children's needs were overlooked one too many times.

I'm so sorry that you have already had such a bad experience. I'm sure you already know that you'll (unfortunately) have to stay on top of the school every step of the way. Hopefully they'll have so much fun in kindergarten and the stress will be worth it in the end!

  • I have to deal with this all.the.time.  I'm a probation officer for teenagers and a lot of my kids have fallen through the cracks.  It's so frustrating.  I hope you get the whole situation worked out!  And yay for Kindergarten!

  • Matthew has been in preschool special needs for 3 years and Jon for 2.  I am working as an advocate for special needs in our area so I know how to say/word things.  I am also co-president of our special needs PTA in the district.  I have been on them about the boys' transition.  It is so frustrating that they dropped the ball.
  • I hate that for you!  Hopefully once they get going everything will be great and they'll love it.  I hope it gets better starting NOW!

  • What I can not understand is why they did not just call you yesterday when they realized that they did not send out the letter on time. There is no way they thought you would get it before this AM. Maybe you would be annoyed with last minute, but at least you would have a chance to go....

    Morons.

  • how frustrating!! I'm sorry that this is adding to your anxiety!!  sending your kids off to school is tough no matter what, let alone adding things like this into it!  grr!

That's it exactly!  I went out shopping this morning for water, batteries, etc since we're supposed to get hit with the hurricane.  I am more annoyed they have their placement wrong.  WTF?  We had meeting after meeting to go over it.
