I have a small list of the things I will NEED to take on the plane with me. I will have a few bottles already made up, a few of his favorite toys, paci, diapers, wipes etc, blanket just in case we both get cold. My dad has a car seat and stroller waiting for me when we get to Detroit so I will be wearing LO in my moby type wrap. The flight isn't that long from Boston, just under 2 hours and we leave at 7am. Hopefully, he will sleep majority of the time because he usually doesn't get up until around 9am.
Can you suggest or recommend anything else? Am I forgetting something?
Re: The must haves on LOs first Plane trip
extra change of clothes for you and him (diaper blowout, massive spitup, etc)
enough food to nourish him in case of an all day delay or something (especially the kind where they keep saying 'just 2 more hours' which doesn't leave you enough time to leave the airport and come back)
yea the spare clothes and I think you've gotten everything else.
I dressed our baby (she flew at 8 wks) in one of those super easy sleepers that have just 1 zipper down the middle rather than a ton of snaps. Her spare outfit was another zipper sleeper. Just makes things quicker for changes.
I always have baby tylenol or something with us too. Never have used it, but just in case.
I flew with DD1 when she was 3 months and again when she was 5 months - a few things that worked for me: definitely an extra change of clothes (or 2, just in case), an extra shirt for you, diapers, wipes, changing pad, blanket, favorite toy, bottles (either formula or expressed BM - TSA doesn't usually give you a hard time about it).
Also, if your baby is wearing shoes or a sweater, they will ask for you to remove it to put it through the scanner, so maybe keep it in the diaper bag until after you've gone through security.
If you're flying JetBlue, they have tv's in the headrest for every seat, so maybe some earphones - otherwise, bring a book or something that will keep his attention. If you've already started snacks like puffs or mum-mum's, those can help too
Good luck!!
Thank for posting this. I'm flying with LO in about 2 weeks and didn't even think of what essentials would be needed!
Just FYI, you can check one baby item for free (pack n' play, car seat, etc.). Also, if you do choose to use a stroller in the airport, they'll take it at the gate and return it to you when you get off the plane. It's a free service, essentially like a person in a wheelchair would get. While it will be easier to manuever on the plane with LO in a carrier, I don't want to be running through the airport with her attached to me, lol! I'll put her in the carrier right before loading the plane but will use the stroller until then.
