Worst smell of 1st trimester contest

My award goes to the football field-sized pile of black plastic garbage bags filled with organic waste (tree branches, sticks, leaves) from the May 22nd North Minneapolis tornado sitting at the recycling plant one mile from my house.

Three months they've been sitting there, through some of the hottest summer days in recent MN history. Every time I get off the interstate, I roll up the windows and turn on the air to keep the smell out of my car. Sometimes it wafts over to my house.

The *worst worst* part is that if the waste was not in plastic bags, it probably wouldn't smell, and would have easily composted into rich soil to grow new trees to replace the 200+ lost in the tornado.

My worst smell has been Sandy, the 63 year old engineer I work with who has some sort of aversion to bathing. He smells like rotten bananas and burned broccoli.

Wow that sounds awful! Mine would be these horrid gas station chicken fingers that DH loves to eat. They are so nasty. Blech!

My dog had diarrhea. Within seconds I was heaving so badly that I had to go outside with the dog and leave poor DH to clean it all up.

Mine was the fish/meat building at our local farmers market. On a hot Saturday, the smells of all of the different meats combined with the other things they sell in the building (herbs, citrus fruits, donuts) is just horrendous.

Dead rat carcass in the -20 that my coworker skinned and had to partially dry out to feed some beetles we need for an experiment.

Worse than that is the room where the beetles are, but my coworker will take care of them since he knows my nose is SUPER sensitive right now and going in there would mean lots of hurling.

When I was in the height of my morning sickness days I went to a water park with my sisters and their kids. They sat me by the wave pool, downwind of a trash can in 90 degree heat. I gagged all day but felt too sick to pick myself up and move. I thought I was gonna die right there.

There are skunks everywhere in my neighborhood. Our dog (who we keep inside, who sleeps in the bedroom with us) was sprayed by one last fall, and I can't smell one now without reliving the horrendous experience. Being pregnant & already queasy doesn't help.

Our dog decided to knock over compost on our garage landing that had been sitting there a couple weeks. It's been a week and the smell reminds of vomit and is still lingering....

Oh man, some of yours are so awful! Every time I went into the kitchen earlier this week, I would get a whiff of something and felt instantly that I was going to throw up and had to get out. Then I traced it down to an ancient rotting sweet potato buried on a shelf...eekkk

Also, trash just smells awful, even more so than before I was pregnant. I also have a weird thing with strawberries going on where they smell like a rotting dirty armpit to me. Can't smell, eat or look at them right now.

What part of MN did you live in? I just moved from Savage MN a couple months ago to the east coast. I miss it so much! I was actually only a couple miles from 394 when that tornando touched down. I was with a friend playing cards when the sirens started going off. Obviously we were fine, but that tornado sure left a destructive path. (Now I have a hurricane to look forward to this weekend, oye!)

Anyway... I know my smell is way lame compared to yours. But there is this grocery store that my husband goes to that is close to our house (but honestly very rundown) and everytime you walk in it smells like burnt fried chicken and sour milk. UGH... I seriously have to breathe through my mouth in order to keep from gagging.

So far I've had a few. My cat's poo, when she missed the litter box and thus didn't cover it up. It chased me out to the living room until DH could clean it. The garbage can, anytime, and the worst I think was old cheese dip that had been soaking in water in the sink and left there for like 4 days. I dumped the water out of the pot and RAN before I could hurl, pointed DH at the sink and told him to take care of it.

I *hate* leaving old dishes in the sink but I'm so exhausted after work I don't have the energy to clean, so DH cooks and never cleans up after himself.

Bacon cooking! You will totally gag, I do not think there is any way around it. My husband made it the last time I was pregnant and it was the WORST ever, nothing has ever come close to it.

This time tho the smell of myself has been horrible, I have to have sent free detergent, soap and deodorant but can still smell the clothes and I swear I have BO even tho my husband thinks I am crazy

Wow, some of the things mentioned sound absolutely horrid. The only smell that has bothered me so far (to the point where I had to leave the room) is onions cooking.

I would say one of the top smells on my list was when I was walking from the garage to my office building in 90+ weather in NYC. Between the smell of dog urine, garbage, and god knows what else..I was heaving until I entered the building..LOL, it was absolutely terrible.

That too! I told DH NO cooking bacon in the house! I can eat it, but can't stand to smell it cooking.

I might win this one ladies...

6 days ago a mouse got into our attic and died in the walls. It's a space that can't be humanly gotten to with tearing down the walls and rebuilding them. It's a fairly common problem (I never knew until now) and the smell lasts for about a week. Obviously most people just wait it out rather than spending thousands on construction.

At the height of it (Sunday/Monday) I couldn't be in the house with my sensitive nose. Seriously, dead rotting animal smell taking over?? Horrible even if you AREN'T pregnant!

P.S. I live in Alabama. Where the heat index is over 100 every day. This mouse was cooking! Yuck.

Happy to report the smell is pretty much gone now. And that Home Depot sells these AMAZING lava rock things that capture almost any horrible odor.

Hmmm, on July 22nd I went to the Jason Aldean concert at TDAmeritrade Park in Omaha. We were on the floor level of the ballpark in the front section. It was like 100 degrees with no wind and I was surrounded by drunk sweaty guys. Definitely the worst smell so far. lol

I think the worst smell has to be the water treatment plant down the road from my house. Its atleast 2 miles down the road, but during the summer the smell is awful.I walk out of my front door and it just hits me. I barely have time to run to my car before I start gaging. But thanks to the humidity in Alabama (100+ degrees), anything like a garbage can with last nights dinner in it can make me sick.

Earlier in the day before I got my BFP I was at a cookout with DH's family. DH opened this HUGE can of sauerkraut (sp?). I gagged. Then I went home and POAS because I would normally dislike something like sauerkraut, but it wouldn't affect me as badly as it did. The other smell that has killed me is smoking meat. My DH has a smoker and he loves to use it. I usually love it too (ribs, pulled pork, smoked chicken--it all used to be so great). At the very beginning of my m/s, he made ribs and for 6 hours all I could smell was the meaty hickory smoke infiltrating the house. I couldn't get away from it. It was absolutely terrible...
