Success after IF

How did you transition your baby to a sippy cup?

I've been working on this for awhile.  I give them water in their sippy cups and help them to drink it.  They drink the water and look at me like I'm crazy and drool the water out of their mouths.  Sometimes they will take a small sip and actually swallow the water.

When I give them their sippy cups, they tend to just play with them and bang them around rather than take a drink or even attempt to bring it to their mouths.

Any suggestions on how to get this going properly?

Thanks!

  • Dillon used to take maybe one sip and then bang and splash for quite a few weeks. It took me trying a couple of different cups for him to find one he liked. NUK trainer cups were the winner. Once I got those, with the soft spout, he seemed to get that there was a drink in there and he could drink out of it with ease.

  • We always had sippys on the ground for them. They played with them for awhile at first, I think we started around 8 months actually. I can't remember when they finally got it, but they eventually did. We never really showed them how (maybe once or twice), it was just something they picked up on.
  • I had to try a few different kind of cups before finding one she happily drank large amounts from.    Then just kept offering it to her, several times a day, during meals, inbetween meals, whenever.

  • Jax won't drink from a sippy cup with a spout at all, we tried each kind and he just chewed on them.  He took to a straw in minutes so once we figured out what he liked we kept water in it and would offer it to him at meals and let him have it all of the time when it was real hot out.
