Need an opinion on CGH testing. I am 40 ... have a 21 month old DS we conceived naturally when I was 38 ... no genetic disorders. We are doing IVF this month b/c it is taking longer to happen and DH has morph/motility issues. I am supposed to have an ER next week. My question is: I today have 7 follicles, all measuring around 12 - 16.5. Do you think the testing is worth it? I mean if I had around 15 it might be worth doing. I am afraid I'm going to lose some do to possible damage of the embryo. If I have 7, 4 successfully fertilize, then they do PGD is it really worth it? Is the money and risk worth the reward?I have no prior miscarriages. On my first IVF I transferred one excellent blast and have an expanded blast on ice. The other two did not progress to blast stage. We also do not want twins.
Re: Feeling confused about CGH/PGD testing
We did PGD testing for one of our cycles. I completely understand the feelings you are having. For me, we did PGD on IVF cycle 4 and I had already had 6 losses. So, for me, the results were crucial in moving on from using my OE. Normally I am a very low producer. For some reason on this cycle, I had 15 eggs, which made it easier to do the testing. I struggled with the idea of having nothing left to transfer but given my history, it was worth it.
I'm not sure I would do it if I were you, for several reasons. I would worry that there would be nothing left to transfer. I'd worry that false positive (abnormal) results would come up and then those embryos would need to be discarded. You have a son conceived naturally, which is a positive.
It's definitely a tough personal decision. Have you discussed your concerns with your RE??
Good luck!
