I am 6 weeks today and I had my first ultrasound. I definitely feel more anxious after today's appointment.
The u/s tech saw two sacs. She could not see anything in one sac and it measured under 5 weeks. In the other sac, she was able to find a hb of 97bpm. Also, she said the sac measured 5w6d (so close to where I am).
My RE was encouraged, but cautioned that this can go a number of ways:
1. Twin pregnancy.
2. Single pregnancy.
3. Loss
I appreciate my RE giving it to me straight, but today's appointment left me feeling uneasy. I am so glad we saw a hb on one of the embryos. But I'm worried about it being 97bpm (although I guess it needs to start somewhere).
I guess I just feel more anxious now. I have another u/s next Wed. where my RE hopes that we'll have more concrete answers.
Anyone else have low hb success stories or stories of smaller measuring sacs catching up??
Re: Had my first u/s.
I'm sorry you are feeling anxious. I didn't have my first u/s until the middle of the 6th week so we did see two hb's but they didn't tell us what the rate was. I think it's great news you saw one hb and there's a good chance you'll see two next week. It's just early.
Hang in there!
I'm sorry that you are feeling so nervous. I don't have any personal advice. I had 2 sacs present on my 7 weeks u/s. The 2nd smaller sac wasn't there when they did the 1st u/s at 5w2d. The one sac was much smaller than the other and didn't contain a fetal pole. The other sac was normal for gestational age and fetal pole was present, as well as a heartbeat of 146. But I was a week ahead of you. Your baby's heart probably just formed within the past few days and so that's why it's low.
I had what they called vanishing twin syndrome. The other sac never grew appropriately and if we did see a fetal pole, it never developed properly.
I am hoping that it's just very early for you and I'm betting that it is. I hope that next week's u/s goes much better than you expect! Hugs and praying for you and your little beans.
Thanks for the encouragement ladies! My original first u/s was scheduled for 6w4d but my RE had to reschedule. I am hoping b/c I had an earlier u/s that it is just too early for concrete answers. Hopefully next week will bring good news.
Until then I am trying my hardest to just relax (and not google anything!)
I was 6 w3d when we saw a heartbeat but the doctor didn't want to measure it because it was so early. By 7 weeks it was in the 140s. I wouldn't stress too much about the rate right now - it is so, so early. Also, at my first ultrasound which was I think around 5 weeks, the doctor thought there might be 2 sacs but the second never grew; we're not sure it was a sac to begin with. I was a little sad but my goal was to have one healthy baby so that's what I focused on.
I know the waiting is so tough! I have never known weeks to go by so slowly. Hang in there and I will be sending lots of vibes for a strong heartbeat(s) next week!

I am so sorry your feeling so anxious now! Your right though, the HB has to start somewhere, maybe it had just started? My first u/s was around 6 weeks 5 days and the HB was only 120. RE didn't seem alarmed at that time, and so far I'm over 18 weeks and doing ok.
I really hope it catches up and you've got a healthy LO (or two) in there!!!
