Extra-wide shoes?

DS needs extra-wide shoes, according to the people at Stride Rite Stick out tongue   That does seem to be the case, considering that the velcro barely makes it 3/4 of the way across the straps!

Anyway, in sale shopping online this morning I saw a few cute pairs of shoes on general clothing sites (i.e. Gymboree).  I also often see shoes on discount sites (i.e. HauteLook).  But, from what I can tell, none of these sites carry even "wide" shoes, let alone "extra wide"!

Anyone else need extra-wide shoes?  If so, where do you find them?

What about just "regular" wide?  What brands have you found that either carry wides or else just run wide?

Thanks!

Re: Extra-wide shoes?

  • DD has super wide feet. I can't buy shoes for her at Target or any other discount store (I have no problem spending $$ on shoes for her, but would like to get her cheaper ones for outdoor play!). I have had good luck with both Stride Rite and See Kai Run. I've never tried Gymboree shoes, but I haven't had good luck with Old Navy or Kohls for her. I'm also hesitant to buy shoes online (especially if I can't return them!) because her feet are so hard to fit.

  • I've heard Saucony has several levels of wide and that they are good shoes.

I have yet to find a pair of shoes that we can get onto Jax's wide feet.  I haven't resorted to buying online yet because I don't want to have to return them.

I really need to get up on this soon though or I am going to have the barefoot at daycare child that everyone talks about.

  • Elizabeth doesn't have wide feet, but Keen shoes seem to run very wide. Her summer sandles are definitely wide. I just ordered a pair of their shoes for fall too and even with socks, they're still super wide.

I love Keen shoes though and you can usually find great deals on 6pm and Piperlime. But I'm not sure if they offer actual wide sizes or just regular.

  • Nicholas has extra wide feet and I have been getting his shoes at Stride Rite.  I bought one pair of regular wide last fall at PayLess, but the velcro barely made it across.  So I've stuck with Stride Rite.  I have to get him measured again for his fall shoes, so I'm hoping his feet have slimmed down and we can get shoes at PayLess now.

What size is D in?  I may still have some of Nicholas' shoes from last year that he outgrew you are welcome to them if they are the right size for D. Either PM me here or on FB.

  • I thought Osh-Kosh shoes seemed to be especially wide, they are sized that way but they seem much wider than average.

  • H also needs extra-wide shoes and you know my answer: LONNIE YOUNG!

Seriously, I see super-cute shoes on sale elsewhere all the time, but at this point I don't trust anyone else to fit him.

  • DS has worn stride rite extra wides for his everyday shoes since he started wearing shoes because they have the extra-wides.  I bought him a couple of pairs at Target for special occasion shoes but ended up getting a size bigger (and he didn't wear them for very long).

Thanks :)  Honestly, we went once and didn't have a great experience, but maybe we'll have to try again.

  • I have a really hard time with this too, both kids have giant feet.  Wide and tall, high arches, boo!  Even crocs don't fit very well.  Crocs!

Keen's are normally pretty wide but still not enough for my kids feet, and they can't get into the shoes, they don't fit over the top.

I have to go back to stride right, we usually do pretty well there, I'm also going to try zappos and endless.com to check out see kai run.  They have free shipping and free returns.  It's a pain to have to take shoes back to the post but it doesn't cost anything.

  • T has wide feet so we started with Stride Rite, until one pair gave him blisters.  This summer he wore See Kai Run and Crocs which both fit well despite not being a true "wide".  I usually order his shoes from websites that offer free returns.
