Success after IF

CGH/PGD ... thoughts anyone?

Need an opinion on CGH testing. I am 40 ... have a 21 month old DS we conceived naturally when I was 38 ... no genetic disorders. We are doing IVF this month b/c it is taking longer to happen and DH has morph/motility issues. I am supposed to have an ER next week. My question is: I today have 7 follicles, all measuring around 12 - 16.5. Do you think the testing is worth it? I mean if I had around 15 it might be worth doing. I am afraid I'm going to lose some do to possible damage of the embryo. If I have 7, 4 successfully fertilize, then they do PGD is it really worth it? Is the money and risk worth the reward?I have no prior miscarriages. On my first IVF I transferred one excellent blast and have an expanded blast on ice. The other two did not progress to blast stage. We also do not want twins.

  • Have you had testing for AMH and how are those numbers for you? If they are decent for your age, I would not do further testing at least at this point.
A lot of years and a million tears finally led me to you.
After 7 years trying to concieve, 3 failed IUIs and 2 failed IVFs, my third IVF was a success!
My Christmas baby turned into a turkey bird! Dillon Richard was born at 34 weeks, 5 days on November 28, 2009 after 10 weeks on bedrest for preeclampsia.

  • AMH? Not sure what you are talkign about. Perhaps, you are referring to my FSH which is 6.  - great according to my doc I did have an AMH which I think the docs do not rely to heavy on and it was .34 - a little low but I have been told that my ovaries look younger than a 40 year olds' ovaries.
  • AMH is more reliable a read the FSH which fluctuates every cycle. But .34 isn't ultra concerning for 40 years old. Are you accepting of the fact that because of your age, you just do not have that high of a success rate for IVF as a 20-something year old. I have "old ovaries" and at 37, my success rates were comparable to a 40 year old. It took me 3 cycles for success. If you can afford more IVF's I would not spend the money on further testing, you also have a frozen to do a FET. at this point anyway, I just would consider myself on the wrong side of the percentages. Good luck!

  • From what I heard, I think AMH and FSH are gray areas. I mean, let's face it, they do not help determine the quality, just the quantity. Yes, the more you have the better. I know someone who was 41 and had like 16 follicles and kept having miscarriages.
  • Just got off the phone with my RE and decided, along with my husband that we are ruling out CGH/PGD. Thanks for the feedback .. .now onto worrying about how many to transfer ...
