Shelves in LOs room

We have a set of 3 white shelves that we'll be hanging in the new nursery.  Any ideas about what to put on them?  I don't want them to be too busy or cluttered.  I was thinking a picture frame or 2, a few books (but I'm not sure if they're wide enough for books), maybe a basket with diaper cream, etc.

    Books (even little ones like the small Peter Rabbit collection) stuffed animal or two, non-electrical clock, picture frames, old fashioned wooden toy...

    I wouldn't do a basket of stuff because these shelves seem like they are more for display.

    I have yet to join Pinterest.  I spend enough time here! 

    Thanks for the pics, I love the bird house!  Maybe I'll wait until after we find out boy or girl then I can decorate more appropriately.

    I don't have a picture, but as he got a little closer to a year old, we put another shelf under the one above to store his wipes and diaper creams and such so that he didn't have the opportunity to kick it off the dresser during every diaper change.

    I bought wooden A, B, C letters and painted them.  It looks really cute.
