Your expierences with a Bumbo

Ok I bet there have been post about this before but I am not on every day and I am too lazy to search through the board.  I am considering buying one but I wanted to hear your feedback first because for example I already bought an Ergo baby carrier and she absolutely hates it. I mean of course I can sell it again but I just dont want to buy another thing I dont use especially because I only have a one room appartment so space is limited. So tell me about your Bumbo ladies :)

Re: Your expierences with a Bumbo

  • DD was not a huge fan of the bumbo at first, but now likes it quite a lot. She will happily sit in it for a while and watch me read her books or sing to her.

  • She just sat in it for 45 minutes and watched me fold laundry...so it's well worth it to me!  Our house is 1000 sq ft, so we try not to buy things we won't use either.
  • It's both mine and my DD's favorite thing. I LOVE that I can bring it to whatever room I'm in and she sits in it completely happy.

  • Our LO loves his, and at first he wasn't a huge fan of tummy time, so we used this instead and it seemed to work. He sits on the kitchen counter (big no-no, I know there is a big warning on it that says not to place on elevated surfaces) and watches me cook.

Yep, I do this too. M wasn't the biggest fat at first but she likes it okay now. I say give EVERYTHING you buy for baby at least 1 week of real college trys before counting it as a waste. I got my Bumbo used for free from someone on my local www.bookoo.com its like craigslist, but more localized. Its blue, and has cat claw marks in it, but I scrubbed it clean, and wiped it down with lysol wipes. Also I might buy a cover for it from target. I don't think I would shell out the $40 at Walmart for a new seat, but for free + $15 for the cover...I think its worth it.

  • Silas loves his because he loves to sit up. I got mine for free from a friend, so his is purple. Stick out tongue

  • DS loves his too. We carry it everywhere. It has helped him strengthen his tummy, back, and neck muscles. The tray attachment is great too! Check out craigslist and yard sales and get a used one. I paid $10 for mine and it was in great condition. Just lysoled it really well.

  • I bought a BeBe Pod at a consignment shop. It's essentially a Bumbo. Ari loves it, he sits in it to eat and while I cook dinner or fold laundry.

  • i heard that a baby should not be sitting until 6 month old? or am i wrong
  • Mine has a big 'ol head that she can't keep up at all times, and I understand that they shouldn't be in the bumpo until they can do that.  We've tried it a few times, and she's liked it, but I want to wait a little longer until she can sit up on her own.

We got a bebe pod from a friend and it's a pretty lime green.  Unfortunately, it's not compatible with the tray (older version), so if I find that I do want the tray, I'll just get a set from consignment sale and wipe it down.

  • Where did you hear that? I hope that's not true. S loves to sit up, if I lay him flat on his back he cries and strains to sit.

  • She'll sit in it for awhile but likes the exersaucer much better.

Where did you hear that? .

Bumpo's site: As soon as your baby can support their own head you can seat them in the Bumbo Seat

Bebepod's says "only use when you baby can fully support his/her head"

    HTH~

That doesn't say anything about being 6 months old to sit in them...??

  • The only reason we have one is that a friend gave us theirs. It's okay - DS likes to watch us while sitting in it. He gets tired in a few minutes, though, and wants to be somewhere else.
  • You're not supposed to expect them to sit up on their own before six months, but there's no harm in putting them in something if they have the head control.

We received one for free from a coworker of DH's. I wouldn't have bought one on my own. So far he doesn't have the core strength for it but we're putting him in it for a couple minutes at a time to build it up. Like tummy time. He doesn't hate it but it doesn't excite him either.

  • Our DS likes his alright.  It's not his favorite thing, but he will sit in it for 15-20 minutes and watch us do stuff or "play" with toys and such.  We got ours free from a friend, I don't know that I would spend the $50 or whatever on it though.

And at 3 months our little guy ::just:: fits in.  There's no way we'd be able to use it if we waited until 6 months! lol.
