99.3

is this considered fever? would you send you LO to school?

Re: 99.3

  • I would consider it a low grade fever.  Is LO acting ok?  If so, I'd give some tylenol and send him to school.  I'd keep my LO home for anything over 100.

    ditto.

  • Technically no, it is not a fever and I would send him to school.  I might give Tylenol if I thought it had the potential of turning into a fever based on his behavior and any other symptoms.

ETA from WebMD:  A child has a fever when his or her rectal temperature is 100.4?F (38?C) or higher.

  • Yes. It's low grade. Usually school or daycare won't take them if it's above 100.  I would just give tylenol and see if it drops..

  • DS1's "normal" temp has always been around that so no biggie for us. Yes, I'd still send him.
  • Not a fever.  Like a previous poster said, it is not a fever until it is over 100.4.  My DS's normal temp is anywhere from 99.0 to 99.9.  I would absolutely send my child to school.

  • It's actually not recommended to give pain medicine for fevers unless the child is uncomfortable.
