whine:starting to worry about vacation

our vacatoin is coming up very quickly and it's now hitting me that there could be a hurricane.  We have always vactioned in aug and sept but have done cruises so the boat just avoids bad weather.  I'm not concerned about sleeping arrangements, meals in restaurants or the plane.  We just have to get through the next week without any type of waves off of Africa for us to be safe.  Thanks for listening dh doesn't want to hear about the things I can't control anymore

Re: whine:starting to worry about vacation

  • When do you go?  The talk of the hurricane is worrisome.  My sister just announced a couple weeks ago that they decided to do a destination wedding in the Outer Banks next Labor Day (2012) and every time they talk about the Carolinas being hit I worry about being there next year and her wedding being ruined.  Think positive thoughts!  I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.

  • the 2nd week of september. after this trip if we do an all inclusive i am going in non hurricane season. of course the whole summer it has been fine
  • that would make me nervous too. Think good weather thoughts! When do you go?

I have an irrational "fear" of traveling during hurricane season... so much that we planned our honeymoon on the west coast (Cabo San Lucas), since they typically don't get them like the east coast/Caribbean. Glad I went w/ my gut because that was the year of Katrina and all the other crazy storms. There actually was a hurricane off the coast while we were in Cabo... but by the time it hit the resort it was a mild tropical storm, which brought a half day of high winds and rain.

My FIL goes on vacation every year in Aug/Sept because he gets such good deals with it being hurricane season. They have yet to encounter too much bad weather. But like you said, they go on cruises mostly, so the boats can steer clear of the worst weather.

  • I'm sure everything will be fine! Even if you get a little something - I'm sure there are plenty other things to do. That was my motto in planning for our trip (that we aren't doing any longer b/c of a wedding)...but even if we are watching Toy Story all day long in our hotel room - at least we're not home!!! :)
  • This is why we picked Aruba for our honeymoon- it usually doesnt get any rain or it just gets kind of windy..

Good Luck and I agree with Telyco- even if its a movie in the hotel room- your not home :-)
