Ok piggybacking off the last poll

What weird terms or expressions were you not familiar with before meeting your H/SO?

I had never heard of one dollar bills being called 'singles' or actually met anyone who said 'pop' when he really meant coke.  Also...he didn't know about sneakers and grinders.  Loser.  Haha.

  • My DH is from Texas (born and raised, small town Texan)

They say "Fixin too" or "usedtocould"

"We are fixin to go to the store"

    "I usedtocould do that"

     Indifferent

  • DH and I only grew up 2 hours apart but there are a bunch of things. He calls knit hats toboggans, while to me that is a sled. I call sneakers "tennis shoes" and he didn't know about that one. Also, chipmunks are "grinnies". He didn't know that, either. So I guess there are more things that I say that confuse him.

  • Getting around.  I thought that meant sleeping around, I never heard it used as getting ready.  His family uses it like "I guess I should get around and go to work".

I have never heard grinnies!!!  Too funny!!  And I thought a toboggan was a sled too.

We are fixin' to do a lot down here...or even 'fittin to' for the lazy folks.

DH and I pretty much have the same vocabulary, but he makes fun of the way I say some words.  I say tour like sewer, he says tour like door.  He also laughs because I say, "I'll serve up dinner."  I don't know why I add the up.

I say tour like you do.  Ooooh new poll coming up!

Also...my sister 'puts gas'. She says "I have to go put gas" and I wait for her to finish - as in "in my car" but she never does.  Weird.

  • Shoestrings. Instead of shoelaces. I've never heard anyone else in the world call them shoestrings.

  • I say pop.  =(  My DH gives me crap for it.  He says soda.  I am from MN and DH is from NM so we have a lot of differences in how we communicate.

  • DH and I are from the same town, but I've noticed a couple of weird ones:

Although we live in the center of town, anytime we go shopping: Let's go to town and go shopping"

and when we get there we look for the closest park (instead of parking spot).
