So I just watched two live births on babycenter.......one natural and one with epidural. Watching confirmed that I would like an epidural please! I think natural birth is great, but I don't think it's for me.
It's your decision and totally depends on what you're comfortable with, but watching ONE video isn't going to give you much information. Every birth, every labor, every woman is different. I was super gung-ho about my epi last time and it sucked for me, lol. If you're most comfortable with an epi then go for it, but don't let such a small sample give you an impression on medicated/unmedicated births in general.

My husband is stongly suggesting I get the epidural but idk... I want to do it natural just because I wanna try it just once and bc my husband doesnt think I can do it natural. LOL. Maybe not the best reasons to try and who knows in the end I might want the epidural... but for now thats where I'm at
A little foot note: My husband doesnt think I can handle it (bc I can be a baby sometimes) BUT he also is concerned and doesnt want me in any pain and says women use it all the time and its safe so why not....
I made the decision to have an epidural early on, it's something I've just wanted to do. I'll take the help where I can get it.
But I get what you mean, everytime I watch A Baby Story or any other birth show and I see a natural birth, the women scare me! They scream so much louder and look so angry, haha. It woke my husband up one time when I was watching it at 6 am.

This!
Unless you just have no problem at all with an epi, Id do some more research. Most births they show on TV that are natural seem WAY more intense than it actually is for most women (not that it doesnt hurt like he// anyhow). Not all women scream obscenities, pop blood vessles in their heads and seem all around out of control. And some women who get epi's end up feeling everything anyhow but being paralized and unable to move to relieve pain. Definitely do more research before jumping on one boat or the other. One video may not give you all the details:)
Either way do what's best for you!

I am a super huge baby when it comes to pain so I am opting for the epi as well...I know my mom lost a little respect for me when I told her that since she had my sister and I without so much as a Tylenol. (Even after I decided to do a half nelson in the birth canal and get stuck...)
I had a epidural with son and it only took on the left side. I hope I have better luck with it this time. They say over time you forget about how much pain you were in during childbirth....Bulls***...I remember!!

Is your husband a midwife/OB? It is a fact that medical interventions i.e epidurals can lead to caecareans, much moreso than natual births.
Mothers have to do what is right for their bodies and their babies, so if an epi is right for you then go for it, but it irks me when not enough research is done to make an informed decision.
The nurse call them back in to check my line and instead of checking it the lady just put a different medicine in the bag. She left. It got worse. The nurse called them back and said they needed to come and check me because I wasn't getting any relief. My DH was holding me up while I pushed and said "Is there supposed to be blood back here?" The nurse was livid. My line had come out.
The lady came back almost 2 hours later saying "Ok we're going to redo her line". I was complete and pushing, it was to late. The nurse went NUTS on that lady. She was yelling and screaming at her that she waited to long and should have looked the first time she came back.
You don't forget the pain of childbirth. That "ring of fire" they tell you about....it's real. This time I don't even know if I'll try again.

Bring on the drugs! Actually, if they could knock me out for the whole ordeal, that would be perfect (although I believe this is frowned upon for normal deliveries, lol).
I told myself I wanted to see how long I could go before I really needed it, and I told my SO that he can NOT have any say in whether or not I can have an epi or not.

It doesn't show from my OP, but my decision isn't just based on this video. I did some research, but just feel in my heart and soul that the epi is a better option for me. The natural one they showed on baby center was pretty low key....they didn't go all hollywood about it.....but still, with all the research I've done, I feel the epi is the right thing for me.

Love this! Not their body, in no way is it their choice. Amen mama

I agree. I think every woman should really make an informed decision and actually research the risks/benefits. Not at all saying OP hasn't done that, but unfortunately I think some women go into childbirth without much knowledge of what exactly is entailed in most common interventions. Just because it's offered and commonplace doesn't mean it will always work or not have any side effects or negative consequences.
Like they always say, labor is never predictable, so prepare for anything! And you don't get your money back if it doesn't work .

My sister has done both-natural and epi, and she said there's no way she'd ever have a baby without an epi again.
I am planning on getting an epi for sure-I want to be able to enjoy the whole process as much as possible and not be in agony.
I was all for an epidural and had one. It failed.
