Thoughts? RE: Big girl bed.

What are your thoughts on going from a toddler bed to a full size? The frame I want for Isa's big girl room only comes in a full. She currently sleeps in a converted crib/toddler bed with a half rail. She used to fall out a lot, but hasn't in a few weeks now.

Too big for a 3 to 3 1/2 year old? Why or why not?

TIA!

  • I would get it, put it up, but also keep her toddler bed in there. If it doesn't work, she can still sleep in the toddler bed until she is ready for the big girl bed.

Also, I read somewhere that you can tuck pool noodles under the fitted sheet, along each side of the bed to help keep them in. Whoever shared that idea is a genius.

  • Yeah, Alicia's idea is good. Ollie went from a crib to a twin, and its been fine. He loves it! I would guess that having a bigger bed means less chance of falling out? The only thing I would worry about it how high up it is-- Ollie's is still pretty low to the ground so he can get out and in easily, which is nice for when he has to go potty, etc.

  • Do it! I plan on either moving W or #3 to a full, since that is what our crib converts to and we will be done with it as a crib.    I like the pool noodle idea, I have heard of it working but not tried it.

  • Julia is in a full sized bed - she went from the crib directly to it. We bought some rails from amazon for the sides and the box spring and mattress are directly on the floor so it's not so high. When she gets a little bigger we'll put the headboard and frame in there - it's a super high antique bedroom set (that was my great-grandmas and mine growing up).
  • Do it! The best part of moving N to a twin is cuddling for story time or being able to lie down with him after a bad dream or if he?s not feeling well. If she?s used to the toddler bed, she should be able to stay in a full bed.
  • I say wait till you move. Her room is tiny

It ain't going in this house! I don't think a full would even fit in there. I'm planning ahead. :)

  • We just ordered a twin for Collin. A full takes up so much room and I want to move his 8,000 trucks/cars/etc. into his room once he moves down the hall.

Jillian will probably stay in her toddler bed until she can't fit anymore for this reason alone.  The girls' rooms are super small.  I'm thinking of getting a bunk bed type set-up with no bottom bunk when she gets bigger just to save some floor space.

  • You could always just put the mattresses on the floor for a while till she get use to the bigger bed.  Then put up the frame!

  • We moved W directly from a crib to a full size and he did fine.  I will say now though that I want a twin so we can have more room in there.  My dream in life is to have my kid be able to play by himself or in his room and if he has less bed/more room maybe he will.  Maybe, right?
