DH's Grandpa :(

My DH's grandfather is unfortunately in pretty bad shape and they're thinking he may not make it through the day or the week. He's 95 years old and has had a good life and has just asked to be left alone at this point, but of course it's still terribly sad for the family.

If he does pass away, the services will be in Buffalo, NY which is an 8 1/2 hour drive from where we live, or a plane ride.

Do you know what type of travel is allowed in 3rd tri? I'm actually really scared to travel at this point and have a lot of anxiety at the idea of being away from my Dr./the hospital, but of course this is important...

I'm not third tri but I went on a huge wounded military trip with husbands and wives and 2 wives were in their 3rd tri, one made the short plane ride with me and the other made a 10 hour drive.. But I really think it's at your and your doctors discretion

You are in the very beginning of your 3rd tri so I would say that it should be fine! Im not sure if I would have wanted to fly but a car trip I totally would have done. Just check with your dr.

This is a tough one! It's mu understanding that airlines don't let you fly after 36 weeks, but I certainly understand why you wouldn't want to drive for eight hours.

I just made a 12+ hour drive at 28w for my baby shower. The only thing my OB said was to make sure I stayed hydrated and stopped more often to use the bathroom and walk around a bit to avoid getting any clots from sitting for too long. So our typical 12 hour drive was more like 13-14 hours. One OB said he'd prefer I flew but we needed to drive since we were bringing gifts back from the shower. An 8 hour drive shouldn't be nearly as bad. I'm sorry to hear about your husband's grandpa. T&Ps going out to him and his family.

If it were me, I'd made the trip for MH. I'm sure everything will be ok.

I'm so sorry to hear about your hubby's grandfather. T&Ps for you guys! As for the travel, my OB I think said no flying after 32 or 33 weeks (I have it written down at home) - so I think your travels would be fine.

I don't have any advice about the travel. I would probably ask the OB.

I am so sorry to hear about your H's grandfather though. It is so tough when a grandparent is nearing the end! Big ((hugs))

I'm sorry to hear about your husband's grandfather.

With my first pregnancy, my OBGYN allowed me to travel to the west coast (from NYC) through 31 weeks. That's a 6+ hour plane flight but, obviously, left me well out of range if I had PTL. I did it though; we had a wedding to attend at 31 weeks and it was important to me to be there and I really felt fine. With my 2nd pg, I flew 12+ hours overseas at 32 weeks. In this case, my OBGYN said that was the last possible day she wanted me to travel (caveat: this was my 2nd pregnancy and my 1st ended in a healthy birth 2 weeks before my due date). I felt fine on this flight as well but this one was closer in given the length of the flight and the fact that it was overseas. Check with your OBGYN but I don't see any reason why you couldn't go to Buffalo given that you're so early in your 3rd trimester still. But, it will really come down to your personal comfort level.
