Most stubborn baby ever!

My LO has hated bottles from the start. I BF but would try to get her to take the occasional bottle to no avail.

I just started back to school and commute 2 hours each way. Before school started DH and I decided to really start trying to get her to take a bottle and she would just scream and scream. I had no choice but to leave her Monday and I figured she would give in and take a bottle if she were hungry enough.

I was wrong! Monday I was away 9 hours and she refused to eat the entire time. Tuesday I was gone 12 hours and thought for sure she would get used to the idea and EAT, I mean it is common survival instinct, right?? NOPE, nothing except for the 2 ounces my mom squirted into her mouth!

I am so distraught over this. I cried several times yesterday. Clinicals are about to begin and I will be working 12 hours shifts + the 4 hours drive time so I will be away from her for 16 hours twice a week. Any suggestions on bottles to try? Alternative feeding methods, etc??

  • My LO has been on bottles since about a month old and I still BF.  We started w/ a NUK bottle and she goes back and forth between the two w/out a problem.  Good luck!

  • We had the exact same issue... tried 11 different bottles/nipples. DS would try to latch... but could only chew or gag. Then he'd flip out and cry so hard he'd crash.  Did A LOT of searching online and found the Medela Special Feeder (you can find it on Amazon), I got the mini size due to DS's sensitive gag reflex). It works with jaw/tongue pressure (like breastfeeding), not suction. Arrived today and he sucked down an ounce in less than 5 minutes with no fuss!  I'm so excited and at peace knowing if I need to leave, he won't suffer. Smile  HTH!

  • I've been having this problem too and just got a job and start Monday.. cue me freaaaaaaking out.  Last night after 3 plus weeks of nightly tries and various other time of day tries/people/places/bottles/nipples what have you.  She finally took a bottle from ME of all people last night and then another today from my mother in law.  For what it's worth she took the Tommee Tippee bottle (of course expensive, little diva she is) after refusing the breastflow, avent, medela, and another one that i cant think of right now.
