Can you pair Mylicon w/ reflux meds

G is now on Zentac but he also has gas... badly. Last night was quite rough.

The Zantac is for reflux which should prevent stuff from bubbling up, but it doesn't help with gas. Can I give him Mylicon at the same time for that?

  • We did...DD had really bad gas for a while, too, and she was on Zantac. Check with your pedi or the nurse, but it should be okay. We usually tried to space out the two - gave the Zantac before her last evening feed, then the gas drops afterward.

  • Yes you can. Like you said, Zantac only neutralizes acid. It won't prevent bubbles. I'd also recommend Dr. Browns bottles and mixing bathces of formula ahead of time if your not BF'ing.

  • Yeah, we already do the Dr. Browns bottles. We haven't tried any other ones though to see if he'd do better with something else.
  • yes, but the advice my pedi offered helped us more... All mylicon does is break the big bubbles into little bubbles, which can sometimes help, but not always... He suggested Gripe Water. There are several on the market, but I like Colic Calm (www.coliccalm.com) It makes a difference for us. It is much more homeopathic, which I liked since he is taking so much prevacid.

We have gripe water too. I'll be happy to try that too if it'd help.
