Has anyone ever reported a business to the BBB? Long.- Update!

***So I sent this email at 2:41 CST, and they have already replied!  Haha, I've always heard that mentioning the BBB gets people hopping. Their email:
 "We placed the order in for a refund, I am sorry the package never made it. Our accounts person does refunds on Tuesday's typcially, so you should see the refund reflect within a week, thank you"***

Should I even make this threat?

On August 2nd, I ordered 2 packs of mini umbrellas to make a wreath for Cam's birthday.  My order total, including shipping was $29.95.  The order was placed 12 business days before the event date.  On August 3, my order was 'remitted to the shipping department'.  Well, it still hasn't arrived, and I have no use for hundreds of tiny cocktail umbrellas now.

Standard ground shipping is usually 5-7 business days, right?

Anywho, I emailed the company on Monday after trying to contact them via phone unsuccessfully.  The message on the line was that I had to email this email address and emails would be handled within 1 business day.  It's been 2 business days now, and I'm getting impatient.  I have this email typed up and ready to go, I just don't know if it's overboard or not.  After ordering from the site, I read reviews that they are kind of scammy and take forever to ship and that customer service is shotty.

This is my second attempt at contacting you via email this week.  Your voice message on your customer service line states that emails will be responded to in one business day.  My first email went out to you Monday morning.  You should have responded to me yesterday.


I am emailing to request a refund for my purchase including the shipping charge.  I placed my order on 8/2/11.  My order was 'remitted to shipping' that same day.  My bank account was charged $29.93 on 8/3/11, which includes a $9.95 shipping charge.  My order was placed 12 business days before my event date of 8/21/11, and standard ground shipping times are typically between 5 and 7 business days.  We are now 3 days past my event date and I still have not received my order.
If I do not hear from you by close of business tomorrow, August 25, 2011, I will assume that I have been taken advantage of an will be speaking with the Better Business Bureau regarding my experience with your company."

  • You are missing a "d" in and in your last paragraph, but otherwise I don't think it's over the top at all.  What's the worst that happens?  They do nothing?  That's all they are doing now.

  • Do you have any screen shots of the original order with shipping that you can scan? Gives further credibility. Mention the BBB but also mention the state of biz Attorney General.

    It was 8/21, but their argument when I called early last week was that they go by BUSINESS days only, so M-F.

  • I have.  I had an issue with a laptop and reported the company after they refused to do anything about it (it was a manufacturing defect).  The BBB contacted the company on my behalf and got the issue taken care of and I find them to be a very worthwhile tool to use if a company is giving you the runaround like the one you are dealing with seems to be.  Hopefully they will see reason and allow you to return the items if you ever receive them for a full refund or if they are not received, just give you the refund to keep your business.

  • For the most part the BBB is just a mediator - and typically businesses respond pretty quickly once contacted by the BBB.  Honestly I wouldn't even bother contacting the company anymore, I would just request mediation on the BBB website.  But maybe I'm just a b!tch like that. 

    We had an issue with LG honoring the warranty on our television - it was messed up after 10 months but by the time LG got around to doing something about it the tv was over 12 months old (it was in the guest room so it didn't get used much and we kept forgetting that they needed to replace it).  I contacted BBB and it was resolved in like 2 weeks.
