s/o shower door/curtain

Does anyone else use a fabric shower liner? Man, I love them! I just throw it in the wash once a week and it's good to go! If I feel like it's getting a little nastier than normal then I let it soak in some bleach for a while in the washer, then do a quick wash and then a final wash and it's perfectly white and clean. They hang nice (don't get sucked in and touch your body (oh i hate that with some plastic/vinyl ones)....just thought I'd do a little rave in case anyone doesn't and wants to give it a go.

  • I have a vinyl one, and I hate them... I replace them once a month or so, and I feel like it's such a waste. Why have I not even seen a fabric liner? Probably because I always grab the same cheep plastic one every month at Target... I never pay attention. I will have to look next time and I'm actually in need of a new liner!

  • To make things even easier, grab a set of the S-shaped curtain holders - then you aren't unsnapping and re-snapping rings. You can just pull them off and put them back on super quick.

We had a clawfoot at our last place and while I LOVED it - we needed THREE shower curtains to wrap around the thing and the way it was angled made it all bunch up and it got icky really fast. What a pain!!

oh, yeah, I have those already!

  • I have fabric...but it does suck in from time to time. I do love that I can wash it, a few times a year I wash the outer curtain too. I need those S hooks!
  • I have the upstate ny bump to thank for my fabric curtains!  I grew up with the doors and loved them....of course cleaning them wasn't something I cared about back then.  I mean, I had to do it occasionally when it was my turn, but I never really thought about it.  I would take showers at friend's houses who had vinyl curtains and thought they were disgusting!

So when DH and I got married and we had shower curtains I was so disappointed.  But in an apartment, no way were we remodeling.  I learned about fabric curtains on here and love them so much.  They blow in a little, but don't cling to you like the vinyl does.  And so easy to wash.  Definitely get the open hooks, it makes it so easy.  Mine look like an upside down T.  I got both my fabric liner and hooks at Bed Bath and Beyond, and the outer fabric curtain at walmart bc it matched.  I just wash them both once a week to every other week.  The way my hooks are, it is fast to take both off and on anyway.

i was just thinking about these the other day because of exactly this!

i've used them in hotels and saw them at linens & things (back when that existed), good to know about your rave and i might have to look into switching

  • I have been using a fabric liner for at least 10 years now.  Ever since I noticed them in hotels and was like, where can I get one of these.  I also could never stand the smell of the vinyl curtains.  I do the same - either toss it in the washer or put the end in a bucket of bleach solution.
  • Fabric liners are the best!  I get mine at Christmas Tree Shop, I think it was $3 or $5 tops.  I need to get some S hooks though, that would make the cleaning much easier.  This post reminds me that ours could use a washing.

  • I just bought a new yucky vinyl liner and hung it up yesterday.  I also bought an actual decorative shower curtain for the first time in this house.  As I was hanging it up I was dreaming about S-hooks.

I typically replace the liner every 6 months...but the last one was only a few months old and ripped.  I think I'm going to switch to a fabric liner next time...along with the S-hooks.

  • Yup I'll second that rave! I've used them too for years and love them. Also got my Mom and Sister using them years ago too! Vinyl in general I absolutely LOATH! It's SUCH a terrible terrible product both environmentally and for human health! It's one of the few materials that never stops off-gassing throughout it's entire lifecycle and has been a known carcinogen for many years. For me I try to avoid having anything in my house and life that is vinyl at all costs!
