what is the going rate for a nanny

I am wondering what the rate is for childcare. The caregiver is a sahm who will care for Aiden at her house. Thanks

Re: what is the going rate for a nanny

  • I was going to answer $10-$15/hour (DOE&Q) as an average for a nanny, but if I were you, I wouldn't consider your care situation to be a nanny.

I would look more closely at in-home daycare figures, and how qualified this woman is (ie - is she a SAHM looking for extra cash who will absorb AARP into her daily routine, or does she have an early childhood background and is planning on doing preschool type activities with him).   I would plan on $40-$50/day as a starting figure.

I agree with this. I've seen as low as $30/day, usually more like $40-$50/day. Is it a whole day? Is she providing food/diapers? These things make a difference too.

  • We do this, and we went by what in-home daycare would have cost (we pay $50/day--6:30am-4:45pm).  We provide diapers, wipes and some of the food since DD is on soft solids--when she's on full solids, she'll just eat what our provider fixes for her own kids.

  • Ellie's day care provider is a SAHM who watches a few kids (unlicensed).  I pay $30/day and bring my own food, wipes and diapers.

  • Thanks everyone for this input I guess "nanny" would not be right word. I will offer her $40 a day & see what she says.
