11 months old and food...

I know it has been asked alot and I'm sorry for asking again. My girls can eat puffs, crunches, cheese, cheerios, mini pancakes. I'm just wondering what u were feeding ur kids at this age or around a year old. Basically they just eat these snacks after some fruit or veggie pur?e. I want to start introducing real meals. Ideas please! Tia!

Re: 11 months old and food...

  • We pretty much started feeding them anything and everything in the food processor. We did turkey meatballs, turkey breast, chicken, ground beef etc. Basically I would mix it with a little of puree baby food to assist with chewing and swallowing at that age. They also like when I make little pastina past in chicken broth and I put a pat of butter and bit of parmasean cheese. They like yogurt and cottage cheese and they like with fruit in there. Sweet potatoes they love. I just really do anything and put it in the food processor. I think around 12 months they had lasagna for the first time and loved it.

  • We do a lot of finger foods. We're still cutting everything up into approximately pea-sized chunks, and let them go at it. Grilled cheese, black beans, shredded cheese, pasta, toast, pancakes, steamed apples sprinkled with cinnamon, English Muffins, quesadillas, rotisserie chicken, banana bread, rice, turkey loaf (like baby meatloaf), steamed veggies, etc.

  • My goal was to be off purees by 11 months except for occasional rush meals or just trying to get rid of the food we own. Since 11 months, here's a list of the foods that make up much of the babies' diet (I keep this  list on my computer to meal plan for them so I don't have to rush around figuring out meals):

    Pancakes

    Toast

    Cheerios

    Yogurt

    Waffles

    Breakfast bars

    Bagels thins

    Eggs

    Meatballs

    Chicken nuggets

    Hummus

    Grilled cheese

    Shredded cheese

    Gardenburger

    Mac n Cheese

    Tortellini

    Other pasta

    Bananas

    Watermelon

    Nectarines

    Canteloupe

    Broccoli

    Carrots

    Peaches

    Mango

    Applesauce

  • By 11 months my girls were pretty much eating what we were eating at mealtimes.  Some of their favorites were cut up meatballs, macaroni and cheese, oatmeal (I'd make theirs a little thicker so it would clump up), cut up grilled cheese, taco salad, black beans and rice.
  • My guys started refusing to be spoon-fed when they were 7.5 months. By 8 months they were on table food exclusively. They eat what we eat. Last night I made chicken enchiladas, so the babies had the chicken filling part and a 1/2 ww tortilla cut up. I give them fresh fruit at breakfast and lunch, steamed veggies at dinner.

We do all of these for Emme- her brother is rejecting the table foods, and still on purees, so lucky us we get to make two meals per meal.

  • oh and in a pinch- the frozen grilled chicken breasts, cut up of course, work great. She grunts when she eats them she loves them so much! And we tried roasted red pepper hummus this past weekend (I had been giving her plain) and she did the "happy hand dance"- giant approval!

  • We are also working on transitioning off of baby food.  Here's what ours are loving right now (and did good with around 11 mos):

    shredded rotisserie chicken

diced canned veggies (no salt added) - carrots, peas, green beans

    watermelon

    cut up banana

    diced pears & peaches

cheese sticks (pinched off in small bites) - they LOVE cheese

cinnamon raisin english muffins - pinched off

frozen waffles - bite size pieces

bread toasted w/ a cheese slice

    mac n cheese

    scrambled eggs (another big fave)

  • also wanted to add - with the shredded chicken, i spread a little sweet potato puree on it, since it can be a bit dry, esp. if it's a leftover.

  • I feed my girls all of the following: waffles, french toast sticks, english muffins, toast, fruit cups (esp mandarin oranges and peaches), yogurt, scrambled egg yolks with cheese, tons of fruits and veggies, mac n cheese, any pasta except spaghetti, lunch meats, chicken nuggets, fish sticks, meatballs, meatloaf, lasagna, baked ziti, hamburger helper, etc.  I basically will give them whatever we are eating!
