Chicken Pox ....

UGH....the horrible phrase!

The daycare that DS#2 is at all day, and DS#1 goes to for after care has had at least 1 case of Chicken Pox.  I REALLY hope DS#2 doesn't get CP....he's not even 9months old yet!

I did tell H yesterday though, that if DS#2 gets CP, we will go ahead and expose DS#1 ...may as well hurry up and get it out of the house.  That was 1 thing I agree with my mom on.  She had 5 kids, so once 1 of us got it, she exposed the other 4 to it, just to hurry up and get it out of the house.  ....We will not however expose DS#2 if DS#1 gets it.  I realize this will be a difficult task since DS#2 loves his big brother ...but I don't think DS#2 needs it this early

*fingers crossed* the boys don't get it!

Re: Chicken Pox ....

  • Has DS #1 been vaccinated yet?  I thought that vaccine was given at 12 months?  If so, he should be fine, but I would be midly concerned about DS #2 contracting it.

  • both boys are up to date on their vaccinations.

I believe DS#2 had vaccinations for chicken pox.

DS#1 is at an ideal age, but DS#2 is still young.

I did some reading, most babies won't get it as babies if their mothers have already had chicken pox (which is good)...but once they are 1, they are "fair game"

  • By the time your DS#1 shows pox- it is too late.  DS#2 will have alrady been exposed- plus he has spent more of the time at daycare.

I don't agree with exposing kids on purpose- chicken pox can be serious and there can be some nasty side effects.

Yeah, we are pretty certain, if he gets it, it'll be DS#2 that brings it home Sad

Fingers crossed the boys don't get it.  ..I did do some reading on early symptoms - but I just read the early symptoms / what to watch for, my anxiety level was rising just by reading that.   I'm so not ready for any "major" sickness

  • I will keep my fingers crossed for you.  Like I said I am sure your DS1 is fine since he is up to date on his vaccinations...it is DS2 I would be concerned about...but since you BF and have had chicken pox you are doing all you can!  Good Luck!

  • I woke up on my 3rd birthday with chicken pox.  10 days later my 6 year old sister, and 6 month old brother got it as well.  My mom said it was rough, but at least it was over and done with.  Now having a LO, I couldn't imagine having a baby with chicken pox!  Poor baby.  Hope they are able to avoid it!
