Cloth Diapering

What do you do for overnight?

With my DD I didn't cloth in the very beginning but she didn't sleep that long so I don't think ti will be an issue.  If I am wrong please tell me, but when your baby started sleeping longer stretches what did you use for overnight?

Re: What do you do for overnight?

  • DD started STTN at 7 weeks (yes, we were very, very lucky). I stayed with disposables for the longest time, but once I bit the bullet I switch back and forth between a hemp-stuffed pocket and fitteds/wool. No/few problems with either method.

  • fitteds + hemp + wool :-)

We started CDing when DS was 4 months because I was convinced that he'd sleep through the night if only his diaper would hold up ... I knew that there were tons of CDing mamas who had to have some secrets so I came here, got answers, and the rest is history.

My favorite combo is Sbish obf sized fitted + a small GMD or Thirsties hemp doubler + WCW soaker. We'll switch to Woollybottoms longies when the cooler weather sets in. DS is 10 months and drinks 8-10 oz before bed yet he can go 12 hours in that setup!

  • Fitteds and wool if I think he's had a lot of food or will sleep forever, but normally he goes 8 hours at night between diaper changes and we do a BG 4.0 stuffed with the newborn insert and an AFFF hemp doubler.

    OR

Bumgenius pocket + both MF inserts + hemp and sometimes I'd still throw wool over the BG. LOL I usually sandwhiched the hemp b/w the MF inserts.

ETA: OH and for my DD I always had to put diaper cream on for overnight. She slept long stretches and would get a bit pink or ammonia rashy if not. We used California Baby but I've heard that CJ's BUTTer is good and might try that soon too.

  • Fitteds and wool are my favorite for night (and pretty much all day!)

  • Sbish fitted + doubler + Biobottoms wool cover or PUL cover. We can actually get away with a single flip organic cotton insert and flip cover, but I prefer the fitted + wool combo. DD is only 4 mo and isn't a particularly heavy wetter or night pooper.

  • do you think knitted wool will be as good as interlock?  I love fitteds I don't own doublers so I guess I need to add that to the list.  I have been knitting up longies and shorties do I need ot buy some interlock?

You don't need interlock. DD has slept in both just fine. Just prep and lanolize them and they should be good to go.

  • We use fitteds with a hemp doubler and fleece liner, and wool.  My favorite nighttime fitted is a BuBuBeBe; after that, TT and then SBish.

  • We just recently switched, up until about 12 months we were fine with BG cover with the big insert and then a hemp underneath.  Now that she's wetting heavier the microfiber just wasnt cutting it at night and she was getting rashy for the lack of breathable materials.

Now we do: 1 fitted + 2 hemp inserts + Wool Soaker (we use the upcycled ones from MyEcobaby and have really liked them so far).

  • Fitteds and wool have been our most bullet proof option.  J sleeps in all different positions, back, belly or side, and while her overstuffed pocket works okay for back sleep, it usually leaks if she decides to sleep on her side.
