Too Tired!

Hello!

I found out two weeks ago today I am pregnant with my first child!! Everything so far is great, my only concern with "our" well-being is my apparent lack of drive to exercise! In the past 14 days I have exercised 4 times, I am always too tired, and an extra half hour or so in bed seems more appealing than exercise.

Anyone know of anything safe to give me a little extra energy boost??

Thanks!!

Re: Too Tired!

  • I didn't do anything but sleep (and not eat much) my entire first trimester. I just didn't have the energy but when I got around 12 weeks I felt better and slowly started working out again. Even now I will still occasionally choose a nap instead of going to the gym or walking. It's my opinion that I'd rather feel good and have some rest then force myself to work out. Don't get too worked up about it. You still have plenty of time to stay healthy and active. Don't overdo it now. Good luck with everything!

  • I do a circuit training workout that is only 10 minutes long every day.  It gives me such an energy boost in the morning and it is a quick and effective workout. All you need are 5lb weights.  You will need to do modifications as you get further along in your pregnancy but it is working out for me during the 1st trimester.  https://www.oprah.com/health/Ten-Minute-Workouts

Also, I am a strong believer in shopping being my cardio :)   You can multitask and use that time to buy stuff for the baby too.

  • Keep in mind how much work your body is already doing - it's not surprising that you're tired! Before getting pregnant I did a lot of zumba, and I'm hoping to go back to it, but not until I have a little more energy. For now I'm taking long walks every day. It seems that no matter how tired I feel, I can drag myself outside for a walk (especially since the weather has been nice). It doesn't feel like a "workout," but it's better than nothing, and it feels about right for my body right now. Good luck!

I was going to say that exercising actual gives me more energy.  In fact, I have yet to have any pregnancy "fatigue" (never had that super tired feeling) and I think it's because I never stopped exercising (I was in training for a half marathon all through first trimester, so I couldn't really take a day off)

  • My advice would be to just do as much as you can. If that's just a walk some days, great-- at least you are staying active. If you feel up to something more brisk one day, then that's great too. Just listen to your body.

I have been walking, biking (upright at the gym) and doing weights my whole pregnancy and I think it has helped me feel pretty good overall. Fatigue has actually been my main symptom the entire time but luckily it doesn't kick in til dinnertime or so, so I get my workouts in around lunchtime.
