I helped deliver a baby!

Yesterday my friend and co-worker came into the office and was having contractions. Her husband is in Colorado right now (we live in South Carolina) so she didn't have any one to be with her. Also, her family lives in New Jersey. Anyway, she wanted to go to see her doctor before she went to labor and delivery (even though we work in a hospital and its right down the hall), so I clocked out and took her over there. She was 3cm dilated and 75% effaced. They sent us back over to the hospital (of course) and she was having contractions at that point every 9 minutes. They told her to walk around for an hour and then come back.

After about 45 minutes she wanted to go back to L&D so we walked back over and they checked her again. She was already 5cm and 80% by the time we got back and said if she wanted the epidural they could go ahead and order it. She did so they took us back to a delivery room, got her all checked in, and we waited for the anesthesiologist to come. At that point she was having contractions about 7 minutes apart. By this time it was about 1:00 in the afternoon.

Well, long story short, she got her epidural and was pretty happy the rest of the afternoon. The doctor came in at 5:00 to check her and she was still just 7cm and 90% so they gave her a tiny bit of pitocin. It must have worked because at 6:15 that little boy was born! She literally only pushed through two contractions and within 5 minutes that baby was here. She did amazing and I'm so happy I was able to be there for her. I even got to cut the cord!! It was a great experience and I'm so glad she wanted me to be a part of it. Here is a picture of little Mr. Campbell right after he was born.
