question about feeling kicks

Ok, I feel like this is a dumb question. But when you first felt baby, where did you feel it? I'm 17w2d (ticker is wrong) so I haven't been expecting to feel the baby for at least another week, let alone see it. But, I'm sitting here at my desk and just felt weird kick like sensations on my upper left side (above my belly button). To make it weirder, I looked down and saw my body move...like it was being kicked. Like a pulsing. Wtf? Can that possibly be baby or is it just, like, my intestines being weird? It's a weird feeling! Only lasted a few seconds. Thanks in advance!

Re: question about feeling kicks

  • I've been feeling my baby for over 2 weeks now and it's always low - usually on the left side but it's been all over. To me, I never felt the "Butterfly wings" or whatever else people use to describe it - it's always been pokes and jabs.

  • I saw my first kick at 17w, also. But it was very low on my belly, a good 2.5inches below my belly button. And it wasn't like a pulsing, it was one "hit" every minute or so.

  • I can see my belly pulsing all the time: it's from the increased blood flow going on down there.

I feel kicks fairly low - and they are definite. There's no mistaking them for anything else!

I could be wrong, but I dont believe that your uterus is above your belly button at 17 weeks.

  • The first week or two all movment was felt very low on my left side. This past week i've been feeling a couple kicks near the middle and right around my belly button, but always below it, never above. I don't think you should be feeling anything above the belly button at this point because of your fundal height, but I could be wrong.

  • I've been feeling actual kicks and punches (when little nickles is turned the other way) for about 2 weeks now. At first, they were flutters, but now they are more pronounced.

  • I have been feeling flutters since about 13 or 14 weeks but they are very low. I have heard it best described as muscle spasums. I'm 19 weeks and they are still pretty low but are starting to get closer to my belly button.
  • I  believe I've read that your fundal height (top of your uterus) doesn't reach your belly button until 20 weeks (sometimes longer if you're tall) and then should go up a 1 cm each week.  I'm not trying to discount what you felt or saw, maybe your intestines were trying to make more room for the baby below accompanied by some gas?

  • Your uterus doesn't get to the height of your belly button until 20 weeks so it's not baby if you are feeling something above your belly button.

  • Thanks ladies :-) it seemed too high to me, so I'm glad to hear I'm not crazy. It was just so weird! I guess my body is being strange today :-)

  • All the movement I've been feeling is below my belly button on the left side or in the center. My OB told me that the uterus (fundal height) doesn't go past the belly button until about 20 weeks, so anything I've felt above the belly button so far I've attributed to gas:P
