haha, hi stranger
maybe i should get bumpers. i don't think they'd help all the time b/c E sometimes hits his head higher up on the railings, but it's better than nothing! thankfully, it hasn't happened again (that I know of) since I posted about it over the weekend. i'm hoping the novelty of pulling up is starting to wear off - he still does it, but stops before he gets too tired, unlike the weekend where he could barely stay awake, but kept compulsively pulling up anyway.
how long is your E staying up between naps and before bed now? we used to be at 3.5 hours, but out of the blue, my E has been boycotting his second nap - we leave him in the crib for an hour, and he plays the entire time, every day, since last Wednesday or Thursday! it's driving me crazy. he'll finally go to sleep when we try again later (after playing for a long time, again), after he's been up for 6+ hours, which i think is crazy talk, and is too close to bedtime. we tried just skipping the nap yesterday, since he was spending way too long in his crib not sleeping the other days, but i really don't think he's ready for 1 nap yet, and yesterday just resulted in him getting much less sleep, and waking up this morning at 4:15! ugh. so he's clearly getting overtired. he's starting to push his morning nap later too - playing for up to 50 minutes before going to sleep. though this morning, he fell asleep in 15 minutes, at 8:15 (only a little bit earlier than his usual naptime, after waking up at 5 or 5:30). i miss the days when he'd fall asleep in 6 minutes after being put down!
i'm wondering if we should be at 4 or 4.5 hours awake time instead. I just didn't expect it to be such a drastic, sudden leap - i'm used to his awake time increasing slowly, not by an hour at a time! I also wonder how much of this is due to other things, and maybe we should be making only a small adjustment (wonder week 37? the pulling up? more teeth?)...
Re: eacerna (and anyone else who wants to provide nap advice!)
hi stranger :-P
We?ve used bumpers from the getgo so E is used to it BUT when she started pulling up, she kept pulling the bumpers to peek if somebody?s in her room lol :-P. She hasn?t bummed her head (she manages to slowly go back down lol) though so I guess the bumpers help. She likes to bury her face close to the bumper when she sleeps lol. When E started pulling and standing up on her crib, she then started to bite on the crib railing so we had to get a crib rail cover. Now, the front part of her crib and all the railings are practically covered with bumper and rail cover. I am sure the novelty of pulling up will slowly fade away and in no time your E will figure out how to go back down without bumping his head J. My E still sits/pull up after we put her down for naps/bed time but we just leave her in her room. She would cry if she?s not ready to nap so we?d pick her up but when she?s just fussing, we just leave her alone and she?d fall asleep within 5-10 mins..
Before, E can only stay awake for 2-3 hrs and she?s ready for a nap. Now, she can go to 4 -4.5 hrs (pretty common these days ) sometimes 5 hrs (very rare) in between naps. Recently, I?ve been taking LO?s cues and put her down once I see signs that she is stating to get tired. If she?s happily playing though and is in a good mood, we don?t try to push her to nap. E doesn?t nap good at daycare and she only gets 2 naps there. At home, she would normally get 3 naps but recently, she would only have 2 long ones. Nowadays, E stays up for 4 -4.5 hrs between her last nap and bed time.
Wow, 6 hrs is a long time but yeah, I can understand coz we?ve also had similar times when my E doesn?t want to nap and just wants to play.all.day. You may be right though..it is possible that your E's sleep schedule is out of whack because of the new found skills. Give it a few days and see if things get better? I personally think at our LO's ages, they are capable of having longer awake times so maybe see how your E responds to 4 hrs in between naps?
hopefully it is just a phase b/c i definitely think he is too young to be going to just 1 nap/day. i think doing that before 12 months is unheard of
typically it's 15-18 months but i have heard of 1 year olds going down to 1 nap/day
as an aside, at what age do babies normally go from 3 naps/day to 2 naps/day? a friend of mine was asking and I couldn't remember!
