Now I know all of the risks associated with bumpers at the beginning concerning SIDS and also when they are mobile and sitting or pulling to stand on their own...but what about that in between time? LO is just over 6 months and she now sleeps on her tummy but will often stick her arms/legs through the slats of the crib and wake herself or become frustrated. So I bought a regular bumper but am now a bit paranoid that she is going to smoosh her face into it and suffocate : s... Is anyone else dealing with this?

My ds used a real bumper from 5 months until the time he could climb out of the crib at 14 months (not aided by the bumper, it was scary how much of a monkey he is)
I plan on putting dds in on the long weekend now that she's starting to stick limbs out and not like it. I'm not too worried, she has a blanket stuffy in bed with her that she rubs her face on.
We don't have a bumper and this morning we were up butt early because K stuck an arm out and couldn't pull it back (hint: unbend elbow
).
I used one of her swaddling blankets and wove it between the slats and tied in a knot. She always scoots to the same spot so I figure this should work for tonight. Of course now that I've said that, she's going to do a 180 and go to the other end.
ETA: I do plan to go to the store tomorrow and get an actual bumper. This is just for tonight.

Breathable bumpers. Buy one.
I have a breathable and a regular. I have never used the regular because they would have to be taken off to change the bedding and because I was worried about suffication. The breathable is thin enough we just pull up the mattress to change the sheets. I just make sure the bumper is down lower than the mattress so limbs don't go through the slats between the bumper and the mattress.
I'm am hyper paranoid about putting things into the crib with my little one, I took her real bumper out when she started sleeping in her crib full time, she was swaddled at first, but when she got out of her swaddle stage, she slept fine, she likes to put her legs/feet out of the rungs of her crib, and has only got stuck a couple times... If you are wanting to use something to keep her limbs inside, I would use a breathable bumper
Amazon.com has a whole bunch!

Didn't I friggin jinx myself!! I knew saying last night that she scoots to the same corner was trouble.
Lo and behold, I get up this morning to K turned the short way in her crib with her head against the front. ::sigh:: Bumpers here we come.

We put in bumpers around 5 months because LO was sleeping with his legs poking out of the crib slats. He rolls around like a mad man, he has been practicing trying to crawl in his crib and is always slamming down into the sides of the crib back first or feet first. He's loud, too, so most times it sounds like a mosh pit.
The bumpers haven't bothered him at all and will scoot over in the middle of the night to sleep with his back against them. Never had an issue where he smushed his face against them.
I also do not have to remove them when I change his sheets. With the way his crib is, I can just slide the bumper up the slats, change his sheets corner by corner and push them back down against the mattress. I always check the ties and re-tighten them as needed.
