Bedrest/ PTO (Mrs Loos..u here?)

Went in for NST and OB appot today. Still contracting of course and she wants me to cut things down to part time at work and rest the afternoon at home. She wanted to put me on full bedrest but I talked her into half days because I really feel good in the am.

Question: If you were on BR, did you have plenty of PTO or FMLA to cover?

I ask because I don't and I am worried but at the same time I think I need to focus on the babies first not work (My company was bought out by a bigger company in January so PTO did not transfer and I have been TRYING to build up PTO but FMLA will only kick out 3 weeks paid since I have not been with this company for at least 5 years) Just trying to ease the stress a bit...

Re: Bedrest/ PTO (Mrs Loos..u here?)

  • Hey there lady. Sorry to hear you're still contracting, hope they are still painless, mine are starting to hurt. No fun!

I've been lucky & my company has allowed me to work from home. I only worked part time before so it's pretty easy for me to get my 20 hours a week from the couch! Is there any way you could work from home to make-up some of your hours?

The way HR explained it to me when I first went on bed rest at 16 weeks was I would be covered under FMLA for 12 weeks (I've been there for almost 4 years so this wasn't an issue). If I used all my FMLA before delivery my job would still be held for me, 6 weeks for a vaginal delivery and 8 weeks for a c/s (MN state law -you may want to look into what your state laws are). I also get short term disability, up to 3 months, so had I not been able to work from home my job would have been held for me and I would have been paid. It would probably be worth your while to put a call in to HR explain your situation and see what they say.

Good luck! Take it easy and keep those babies cooking!

I WISH! They get really bad in the afternoon after I have been working or up doing things and I get super uncomfy. Thanks for the info!

  • My company offers short term disability.

  • I was also going to suggest asking about short term disability. It would cover a portion of your pay and most policies cover 6-8 weeks after you deliver (depending on your delivery type). Hopefully your company has short term.
