I had to use my Epi pen on me on Saturday night. I went into anaplx. b/c I was exposed to MSG. I've haven't had an exposure for 2 years. And guess whose epi was expired a year...mine It still worked...not that anyone should depend on that but it is really important to keep on top of that date and if you can get your doc to write you a script for 1 refill and ask to have the pharmacy automatically refill it for you a month before your first one expires. That way you can get 2years out of one script with out bothering the dr.
If anyone wants to know what it feels like to have to take the epi I can let you know that to me it's jittery like I had a lot of coffee but no extra energy. Usually b/c I'm also taking benedryl. The next day is really bad all my muscles hurt and I feel really run down. I usually spend the day sleeping if I can.
The needle actually doesn't hurt, the injection doesn't hurt, my h slamming it too hard into my leg b/c he's panicked that I can't breathe, hurts. Just remember you don't have to keep the "pressure" on the needle while you keep the injection in for the full 10 seconds.
I hope this helps.
Re: S/O of check your EpiPen Date
scary! glad everything is ok.
I'm obsessed over checking my son's epipens.
knowing this i probably won't throw out his old epipens right away. I might store them somewhere as an emergency go-to stack.
especially since sometimes with the jr's they need more than one injection!
I check Asher's like crazy too...can't be too safe. My epi pen is probably expired though. I think I'll call my doc today.
