We signed up for the free Lamaze classes my work offers, and they start Sept. 7 and last 3 weeks. Work also offers free Infant Care & Lactation and Infant CPR & Car Seat Safety classes too, but not until Oct. 18th and 20th.
I'm concerned that's kind of pushing it (my due date is Nov. 7th), but to go to infant care/lactation/CPR classes and pay for them around here we'd spend probalby a few hundred dollars at least.
Do you think that's too close and I should just scrap it and pay for the classes? Are they that crucial that if I wasn't able to attend or if I had to go to them after the baby is born it'd be a big deal?

Re: When Are You Taking Birthing/Infant Care, Etc. Classes?
No matter when you are due or how old your kids are, I suggest CPR classes for all families.
We only took a multiples class but I would go for it and sign up for them. It will be nice and fresh in your mind!
Here is my schedule.
9/1/11 - Labor & Delivery class 33 1/2 weeks
9/8/11 - " " 34 1/2 weeks
9/15/11 - " " 35 1/2 weeks
9/20/11 - Baby Basics Class 36 weeks
9/22/11 - Labor & Delivery class 36 1/2 weeks
10/6/11 - Infant CPR Class 38 1/2 weeks
I think mine are a little late but I had to find times that would work for my husband as well and he has late hours. I didn't get to sign up for a breastfeeding class because my hospital didn't have any openings until 10/14 and I thought that was just a bit too close to my due date!
If you can get them free, I'd take the free classes!
I have no idea who will be helping, visiting or available when I need it if I go a little early. So I thought a couple hundred bucks were worth my peace of mind and building some confidence. Plus I my husband gets to attend to all without mayor hassles in his schedule.
I don't think they're a must if you have other resources and are ok learning on the go.
TTC since 1/2008
After 2+ years and multiple treatment cycles,
including an IVF vacation in Costa Rica/Panama,
IVF #2 brought us our miracle baby!
Surprise! Baby Boy is on the way!
I think you're fine.
I'm finishing up my prepared childbirth/lamaze class tonight 32wks
and my breastfeeding one starts when I'm 34 weeks. We arent taking any others.
I'd say stick to those, especially if they are free.
